It COULD have devestating results, but it COULD come out ok. To me it's either let the Avatar die and see what happens to Jake or bring him back. It was shut off unexpectedly later on in the film and he turned out ok.
Now don't think I am knocking the film because I'm not I absolutely love it and am glad we can have a sensible discussion about it.

It's dangerous either way, and he was a marine, so he did have some training. You probably would also find that Quaritch probably wasn't allowing them to wake him up as per his plan to have hi infiltrate the navi clan. There's many ways you can look at it and it all makes sense to me.

Yes I guess on this it's all how you look at it. There is no definite answer and whatever someone comes up with is valid.
IMO I like movies that have such scenes and/or questions left unanswered as to let the viewer decide.
Total recall did that as it was not answered as to weather his Mars adventure did actually happen or was the result of an implant.

I just watched this again and noticed some new details this time:

- During the scenes when the 'Mountain Banshees' are flying, the membrane on their wings flutters. (really cool)

- In the medium shot when Valkyrie I's engine blows, its damage wing shakes for a second. (nice little detail)

- The brig cell doors appear to be a homage to "Battlestar Galactica" (1978) when Baltar was in their brig too, as it also had the same type of doors. (If any of you were around to watch that show way back when.)

This movie just has so many great little details in it that I will be discovering for awhile.

It's a movie, it is set in the future, it is fantasy, you're setting yourself for disappointment if you try to bring your current values into it. With a movie either you buy into the fantasy or you don't.

There similiar to what cops use if they don't have enough handcuffs. Except those are a futuristic version whcih are no doubt lighter and can't be easily cut. Lots of attention to detail was put into this film, that much is certain.

Yep, slap on bracelets. I noticed in the theater, then noticed on BD and pointed it out to my wife (didn't go see it in the theatre with me, but she wishes she had!)

I like these little things, like the womens razor/communicator in SW:TPM

how come the blu doesn't have 7.1, I mean shouldn't this be a given, considering the movie that this is.

Why, cinemas only play in 5.1 and that is what the director will have intended. All these 7.1 tracks are just taking the 5.1 tracks and seperating the two back tracks into 4.

I totally buy into the fantasy as I just got thru watching it again, but there is nothing wrong with asking questions about such things in an intelligent film.
It would be different if we were asking these questions about say a Bill And Ted movie or Dumb And Dumber.

I agree, however if you tell your receiver to matrix the back channels it works pretty well. I have a 7.2 setup and had plenty of sound coming from all 7 speakers and it sounded very natural.

It did? Gee! All it stirred in me was boredom!

But yes, Avatar is very clearly a fantasy film - perhaps science-fiction if I was being generous, but I'd reserve that for The Terminator movies and Aliens as far as Cameron's previous (better!) output is concerned. To suggest it's an "action" film is blatantly ridiculous.

19.7 Million 'Avatar' Blu-ray & DVDs Sold

James Cameron’s Avatar retail sales (not including rental sales) have reached 19.7 million Blu-ray disc and DVDs combined worldwide by its third week in release, according to 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment. (By comparison, The Dark Knight sold approximately 16 million units worldwide on Blu-ray and DVD combined in its 3rd week.) Internationally, Avatar displaces Harry Potter 5 as the biggest selling title since the launch of DVD. Meanwhile, its Blu-ray disc sales are at 6.2 million - more than double the industry standard for the high definition format. Avatar is now the biggest Blu-ray release of all time worldwide with no sign of slowing down.

We can't tell you how to on this site as it's against the rules to talk about bypassing copy protection.
