Here we go

still have to fill the middle with foam which should tighten the black felt on the sides. trying to figure out if I want to use old memory foam pillow or green foam from fabric store. I have some leftover material, so I plan on making a 3" subdude after this. Good times!

Dimensions are 19" x 16", 8" high

Thanks, it will look a lot better once I get that new PA 120 on it! I messed around with it a bit with my current Yamaha sub and can definitely notice a difference.

We know your 2-year old daughter did all the work. We won't give you any credit for the excellent job she did.

I had an interesting experience after installing my DIY riser. It is a 2' x 2' x 7" riser that is stuffed with insulation, sitting on a carpet in a basement. My receiver is a Pioneer VSX 9120 with the MCACC auto calibration feature. The sub is beside my right front speaker in a corner. When I ran the auto calibration, it listed the distance to the microphone as 1/2', instead of 13'. The subwoofer level was now -1, which is lower than normal. I went and manually changed the settings. Is this normal with a riser? I haven't had a chance to have a really good listen (kid time), but will get a chance on the weekend.

That's not usual. You should try rerunning the calibration with the mic repositioned and see if you see the same results.

nice work PT

I finally got around to getting my old tempur pedic pillow and tried cutting it up in the riser. Didn't realize that once you cut it, the pillow is filled with little bits of foam that get all over the place. I wrapped the pillow up and stuffed it in the riser and put the sub back on. I'm not exactly sure about the effects and different foams to use. The memory foam pillow is stuffed in and expanded and fit in snug underneath, but does anyone think I'll benefit more by using some of this green foam from the fabric store I have lying around? I don't know how much it matters, but the memory pillow is really dense and fills it up nicely, but don't know if its too much? maybe I'm overthinking?

I used a 2" thick foam mattress pad ( cut into sheets and layered in the box) to stuff my riser box.
It was fun trying to screw the top down while trying to keep the foam from escaping. lol

We'll see how it goes, it's 15"x16"x9". I need to finish off the covering and locate some legs for it. I'm going to be using a cork/rubber deal, same stuff that they use to isolate big transformers with.

Hey,

I've looked over quite a few of the pages on this topic, I am planning on building myself a riser/isolator for my sub (probably only 4" high) but I don't know where to look for carpet or foam (or what kind I should look for). Any suggestions?

Thanks

Check Home Depot and Lowes for cheap commercial carpets. I used cheap door mats from Home Depot for one of my risers. You can also find carpet in many car audio shops. Parts Express sells speaker carpeting online. For foam, check most craft and fabric shops, including Wal-Mart. The best place for all types of foam, including acoustic foam, is The Foam Factory.

That's Exactly what I did for my 2nd PA-120 Sub DIY Riser (pics in my Gallery). It was like $3-5 for the Carpeted doormat & that's what my Sub sits on. Gotta love Home Depot! It's where I also picked up the 2 pieces of 2x3 & MDF used for the build. The foam I had was left over from The Foam Factory (very good Affordable foam). Good luck!

If "I" can do these DIY Risers (did 2 small ones for my Front speakers), ANYONE Can...
