Phillies still weak in the pitching department and no real answer on Lidge but yet they are a full 4 games out in front, continue to win, and show that they are again a force in the NL East. I think the other teams need to take notice that this squad wins no matter what and once all players are healthy and everything gets in order pitching wise, at least the best it can be be for the remainder of this season, The Phillie's are going to be, once again , the team to beat to get to the top.

Phightens 8-2 in their last 10 games, not too shabby

Go Phillies

GO Flyers

Yesterday during the Yankee game, they said that was the first grand slam allowed by Rivera since April '09.

On SportsCenter this morning, I swear they said it was the first since 2002 (I think they said July, or something around there).

Somebody's stat-boy is failing at his job.

It was his first grand slam allowed since 2002, which was the only occurrence of him giving up a grand slam as a reliever. It was his first grand slam allowed at home as a reliever, although he did give up a grand slam in 1995 as a starter. Rivera had also converted 51 straight saves at home, which tied a major league record held by Eric Gagne.

I figured it was more likely that YES was wrong, since ESPN sort of made a business out of stats.

Good start so far for the Yankees.

4 runs in the bottom of the first, and the inning isn't over yet.

Cervelli is currently on 3rd, with 1 out.

The 1 out was from Cano being thrown out at the plate trying to score from first on Cervelli's hit.

Nope... 5-0 now, after the sac fly.

This game could get ugly.

Dice-K is the Chien Ming Wang of 2010.

Tough loss for the Pirates last night...errors late in ball games will never help the W column. Pirates are facing off with the Phillies in the City of brotherly love tonight, its 1-1 in the bottom of the 2nd right now.

Good news for the Pirates however, Aki Iwamura is out tonight with a hamstring injury, and will be out for a few more games at least. Delwyn Young, his replacement, hit a HR in the 1st inning. Hopefully John Russell takes a hint here.

It certainly did. Yanks down 9-7 in the 9th, blowing the 5-0 lead.

Phil Hughes had an unexpectedly bad start.

Chan Ho Park came back from the DL, gave up a couple HRs.

Yankees at least have the good part of the lineup due in the 9th, so it could get interesting.

Haha.

~~~
9th inning recap:
Gardner -- doubled to left
Teixeira -- flew out to RF, 1 out
A-Rod -- game-tying 2-run HR
Cano -- flew out to center, 2 outs
Cervelli -- hit-by-pitch (didn't look happy)
Thames -- walk-off HR
This was the Yankees' first walk-off win this year, after having an insane 15 walk off wins last season.
Nice to see Thames get the game winning hit, to sort of bring him into the fold as a Yankee.
Maybe more importantly... Vasquez was brought in as a reliever in the 9th, when Boston had runners on 1st and 3rd, and now gets credit for the win
Haha. Nice picture.
It'll be even more appropriate if one is made for catching-prospect Jesus Montero.
Dodgers pitching has been impressive over the last week. SD sweep this past weekend sure did help and we have another two games against SD starting Wednesday.
You bet it has.
Dodgers pitchers have a 1.75 ERA during their winning streak. The relievers have allowed just two runs over 20 innings and have retired their last 21 batters.
BAM!!
Man who knew trading Juan Pierre for a no name rookie pitcher would work out so well for us! This kid has been lights out with Maddux like control. 84 consecutive batters without allowing a BB. Very impressive.
