Pretty sure you can only see that if the reputation leaver gives you a comment also.

How many times can you think a day before your brain hurts?

Another thing on the "similar threads". It appears to work like the Forum list on movie pages, in that it searches for common words. Sometimes the threads listed aren't necessarily similar.

Is there a way we could identify a "similar thread," which we didn't think applied to the active thread?

For instance, the "What is your rank in My Collection?" Thread has "similar threads of:

Lost: Complete Collection
Wallace and Gromit the Complete Collection
Oceans Trilogy: The Complete Collection
Lost complete season 1-5 collection uk

You might not want Stewie to give you a negative. I believe that as a member's reputation climbs the + or - rating they award will have a greater (numeric) effect on your reputation score.

Thanks for the info Titan. Even more reason I dont care for this feature. If a dingbat with an entourage of koo-koo croanies rates me down it has a greater impact than a regular member. The rolled eyes are not at you or site management, they are at the feature, or more accurately, where I think this will end up.

Thanks again.

Yeah I've seen this Repuatation system on another forum before. They are anonymous unless the giver signs his/her name in the comment field (which you can view by going to your User CP). And BluTitan is correct... if I remember correctly, users with more posts AND users with more rep have a larger impact when they dole it out (can be like +/-10 in the case of 'extreme' users).

At the other forum at which I've seen it used, it was just an immature popularity contest with users whoring/trading for +rep.

Can't be all that weighted to posts. The two I gave out said it was a 4 and a 1 pointer.

Mayhaps it should be like rating a thread...you can only do it once per user?

Not once...wait a while...then can do it again.

Thoughts?

As far as I know, you can dole out 10 reps per day, and I think you can only rep a person if it's been at least 10 reps since you last repped him/her.

I agree, Squid. I don't see how the rep system/feature will add anything positive to the forum in general. Sure, a few thread crappers may think twice, but 99% of the time, most users are very kind, helpful, and pleasant, and those that are that die hard to thread crap surely won't be swayed by some false sense of reputation that green dots or numerical values portray.

Oh, one more thing I just remembered... I believe if your rep falls too low (I think below 10) then you can no longer rep other users.

I googled and found this. The admins/mods here may have tweaked some of the specifics here and there when they installed the system, but this is an explanation of how the system approximately works:

So when do we get to view the list of who's at top of the reputation charts?!?
y'know, since it's a popularity contest and all....

Since the admins have disabled the Members list, you can't sort it based on rep (or posts or anything). So who knows.

This is probably for the better, IMO.

I knew there'd be some lively debate on this! Personally, I'm game to see how it plays out.

And Stewie and Squiddy, I understand where you're coming from and you might be speaking generally rather than personally, but you two certainly wouldn't have anything to fear from this system. Come on, now! It's Squid and Stewie!

Thanks buddy, I appreciate the thought. I am more concerned about it getting abused than used against me or Squid. But if its here we may as well give it a run and see how well it works.
