I don't know if it will be a dramatic difference, but that is one cool scene! My little girl wanted me to rewind it a bunch of times. It honestly feels like you get surrounded by the bass, I cranked it up on the final one and woke the little one sleeping upstairs!

Yes, Skadoosh is my favorite SUB demo material. It just blows you away!

wife and kids are out of town tonight, so I got Minority Report and Saving Private Ryan to watch! Since I have some free time, I was going to mess around with my sub location via sub crawl. When I place this beast where I sit, is it OK to actually put it up on the couch where I sit, or do I want it on the floor?

watched Minority Report last night, it had some really cool scenes with incredible bass. I love the scene with the guns that shoot out the sonic pulse, sub loved that! A little later when he was being chased in the warehouse had some cool machine noise in the background, sub loved that as well!

I moved my sub around a little last night and had it beside my couch on the side of the wall. When I put it there, I could feel the bass a lot more, especially shaking the couch, but it seemed like I lost a little in the actual sound. I figured the couch was absorbing a lot of the bass? So I moved it back in the corner for now. Gonna try and pick up a SPL meter soon and measure that way, I'm having a tough time finding the best sound, i think my ears are still too used to my old little sub that was in the corner and produced boomy sound to compensate for it being smaller.

last night I watched the bluray version of the family guys version of empire strikes back, SOMETHING SOMETHING SOMETHING DARKSIDE...
with DTS HD MA the sound was pretty damn impressive.. but due to the time frame I was not able to play it as loud as I wanted,,, even the soundtrack (something I have heard about a million times) sounded awesome.. with lots of deep tones.... might have to listen to my old Telarc TIME WARP and check out the John Williams tracks again

Default WAR OF THE WORLDS are u kidding me

maybe its just me ,, but i thought when a movie is transfered to bluray, the PQ is enhanced and becomes better than that of dvd.... well WOTW is just a dvd with HD audio sound... for 20bux and a blu box i would expect a lot more... i could have saved my money and just turned up the volume on my dvd

What did you find wrong with the PQ? The movie isn't supposed to look like a Pixar film or Avatar. From the review:

Quote:
The picture does enjoy a strong film-like look thanks to a thick layer of grain that's maybe even a bit heavier than that seen in Minority Report and Saving Private Ryan. War of the Worlds does not offer high definition "eye candy" in the traditional sense, but it is reflective of the way the film is supposed to look

the awy the film is supposed to look.. i can understand if its an old film,, but it isnt.. and saving private ryan had some great pq moments.. even minority report... the pq in wotw just look like a plain ole dvd,,, thats all. but like i said im not critic so it could just be my player or tv

well after reading other reviews i will say this... superb SQ,,, PQ was unexpected due to the grain in the movie looks like dvd quality, but if this is what the makers were going after , then i will say its a good dvd look... not a fan of the grain..

one thing for sure,, i will not be playing this at near reference volume,,, played it at 24db below reference,,,, WOW!! and had to turn it down on a few parts during the pod emerge scene

Let us know when you get it and what you think of it. I was just watching Daywalkers last night (horrible movie) and the sub still continues to make me smile. Best bang-for-the-buck item in my setup.

Yeah, I'm guessing you're not a huge Spielberg fan/follower. He's very into achieving a film look with typically heavy grain, washed-out tones, and the like. He's going for a specific look and mood in many of his films- Minority Report and Saving Private Ryan both are good recent Blu-Ray examples of this. In my opinion, they look fabulous. I have War of the Worlds on the way out to me now and I'm sure I'll love the look.

well now knowing that is how he likes to make his movies i guess it is fair to say.. "it is cleanly grainy".... well not trashing the movie ,, i just went in expecting a lot more without knowing how spielberg likes to do his work...
