Wow, by tosh stats, %20 of thoes = 10,000 new Blu-Ray movie supporters. One week will wash away tosh's fire sale.

The % might actually increase since the 40gigs came with an absolutely stunning PQ bluray.

Tosh will bent the % to what ever suits the situation at the moment. They are not stand alone, oh, wait, they are all Blu-Ray players, oh, wait, only 20% are Blu-Ray players.

I think the #s will increase as HDTV adoption increases and people see what it is capable of.

That really puts a damper on the fire sale Toshiba had. Excellent news indeed.

Now we need to each go out to Amazon and abuse that BOGO offer from both Sony & Disney so the sales figures slaughter HD-DVD again this coming week.

This is a great opportunity to start building our own good news.

#1 - Blu-ray outsells HD-DVD on Transformers week
#2 - Spidey week hits and Blu-ray owns 71% to 29% over HD-DVD
#3 - Japan sells 50,000 PS3's in the first day
#4 - Cars & Rat ring up sales as Blu-ray owns HD-DVD again (hopefully big%)
#5 - Through the BOGO we kill them in sales for the third straight week
#6 - The DieHard Collection send Blu-ray over the top for a 4th straight week of dominating sales

It could happen, good get those movies!!!

Another site said around 37k on the first day, but the part I found most interesting was that they said it was 31k white ones and 6k black ones. I wonder if the US will get white PS3s. I know one friend who would buy one if he could get it in white.

Don't forget that the 40Gb PS3 come with SM3 Blu Ray.
So for those people not to know their PS3 is a Blu Ray player ... they'd have to be terminally brain damaged

No white planned for North America currently.

But why buy one only if it is white?

All future PS3 need to include a blu movie. This will eliminate HD DUD fud that "most" PS3 owners don't know that they're players can play blu movies.

I still find that such an incredibly stupid thing to say then I realize it comes from the pathetic DUD camp

He didn't like the way the 60GB version (black) looked with his equipment in his living room and got rid of it. I told him he could hide a 40GB one behind since it doesn't run as hot, and the remote doesn't need line of site, but he would rather get a white one.

Do Nielson numbers include Japan? I didn't think they did, if I'm right this will have no affect on the fire sale. Also, there really is no format war in Japan, they've already chosen the right format.

Good news though as this will be the first week that the PS3 has outsold the Wii in Japan.

Kind of an unrelated idea but Toshiba has to be quakin in their boots b/c this 40g version of the PS3 is really changing things. Mabey 20% of the 40g users just like 20% of the 80g/60g versions will be BD movie watchers, mabey just 10% for now. Either way, Sony found a way to cut the prices on the PS3 for budget consumers, so their product mix just got a lot better from a revenue perspective.

Tosh has to be scared about this.....

And it's safe to say that much more than 10% of the 40GB users will in fact give Blu-ray a spin. Why wouldn't they?

From the Region B side of the pond, Blu-ray is shaping up to be a hot commodity for Christmas. Which is in some ways even more important than the Japan news, as Japan has been conquered already, but HD media still have a long way to go in Europe.

Does the 40GB PS3 in Europe US also come with a Blu-ray movie? I looked on Amazon in the UK and didn't see any mention of one.
