I think the format of the all-star game is kinda stupid. I think there are getting to be too many all-stars these days, too. I think the starting roster should be 25 (2x8 players + 9 pitchers). I think the first and the second pitchers should be given three innings each. I think the starters should be left in there longer to avoid awkward late game situations such as this. I think managers should not try to use every pitcher on the roster and again should play the game more normally so as to avoid awkward situations such as this/extra innings.

Well it looks like the Yankees won't get home field advantage in the World Series.

Tough day for Yankee fans in general yesterday (*no sarcasm intended*)

Haha, he's a few years younger than that, and even though he's no speed demon, but like Chad said, compared to Ortiz, he's pretty fast.

And the irony is Ortiz's amazingly slow speed on the bases may be partly to blame.

Any Toronto fans care to comment on the Alex Gonzalez trade? I am not familiar with him, but it looks like we are adding a great slugger (and Jason Heyward back from the DL) to our lineup at the expense of the worst hitter in our lineup... That could be a huge boost for ATL.

Toronto fans should not feel too bad about Escobar because he plays fantastic defense. Does Gonzalez play particularly good/poor defense at SS?

if we still trade for cory hart, i'd be pumped about our chances, gonzalez is solid and the prospects arent bad to boot...escobar wasnt gonna materialize in Atlanta, too undisciplined for the organization...talented but arrogant and lazy

I agree. Escobar had a ton of potential but just was not developing. Gonzalez is a definite improvement.

I'd give my left arm to see Bobby get a championship in his final season. Not likely to happen but the Braves do have a very good team of young guys and veterans having a good year. Hopefully they play hard down the stretch. Before the season I assumed Philly and St. Louis were the NL teams to beat but neither has had a very good season. There could be an opening for Atlanta.

I've been following the Jays since opening day and Gonzalez has been one of the big surprises and is having a career season. The guy can flat out hit and fields his position very well.

With numbers like 17hr, 50RBI, and 25 Doubles at the midway point of the season, Gonzalez clearly will add more power to the front running Braves.

Hard to believe he's just 34. Seems like he's been in the league forever. Then again he did make his MLB debut at 19 so he's in his 17th season.

I think the same way about Kobe Bryant (how young he is: 31, despite the number of seasons he's been in the NBA: 14).

If A-Rod plays till the age Barry Bonds was when he retired (43) he will have played 25 seasons.

Interesting story. My friend's brother played on very good high school baseball team that wound up playing against and getting blown out Miami Westminster Christian High of Miami, FL in the state high school baseball championship. Westminster was led by Alex Rodriguez that year. A-Rod's batting average was something ridiculous like .500. I believe he was intentionally walked a very large % of his at-bats because nobody even wanted to pitch to him.

Isn't there an MLB player who's been hitting .391 for the last month leading up to the All-Star Break.

I think you might be talking about Josh Hamilton. Here are Hamilton's stats since June 1st.

AB - 149
Hits - 64
Avg - .429
HR - 13
RBI - 37

And this guy was a serious drug addict out of baseball just a few years ago.

The guy has always been a good player. He just made bad life choices. I'm glad he's cleaned up his life though. He can thank his grandma for taking him in when he had hit rock bottom and helping him straighten his life out.
