Universal's VERY conscious that after Warner and Disney, every studio now has to have its own Mickey Mouse--Ie., the marketable house brand label that instantly identifies one studio from another.
Disney obviously has theirs, Warner has Bugs Bunny and Batman covered, and Fox has been known to go to town with Die Hard and the Apes...And Universal knows they have their own ace in the hole with Frankenstein/Dracula, and with the Classic Hitchcocks. (Which they often lump together under the one "Classic Universal Horror" label.)

They're nervous about catalog releases like every other timid studio is at the moment, but as long as studios think they have to "compete" for a share in the market, I wouldn't worry about Uni sweeping the Hitchcock movies under the rug any time soon...Psycho was just the most iconically marketable (and "Classic Horror" crossover) to get the foot in the door.

agreed-- I would be surprised if we didn't see some more Hitchcock in 2011 if not maybe at the end of the year. I would guess that THE BIRDS, REAR WINDOW, or VERTIGO would be the next releases....
and I'll add this-- maybe people could stop being obsessed with waiting until the price is at a "give-away" mark for once and buy the movie when it's released so Universal can see some sales... this will get more titles on the drawing board.

although I'm in the UK, I'm going to wait for this American release. The coverart is much better, and I cant help but think there may be a chance of it containing more extras, given the delay, even although there's no sign of more extras for this version.

It' be a nice bonus if Universal made the forgotten Bates Motel TV Movie available via BD Live with this. I've got an old worn out rental VHS of it, but most people don't even know it exists.

I've pre-orderd it too, the day it became possible to pre-order it. I think a lot of people will be buying it the first few weeks it gets out.

Wow, the UK BD comes out two months before the US release? I think I'll just order that edition and have it in a few weeks as opposed to two months from now. Never cared for Steelbooks, so i'll stick with the regular case. 20 bucks Canadian after conversion isn't bad at all. I doubt it'll be less then 18.99 anywhere here come October 19th. Far out...

Thanks. I've been trying to block the memory of seeing Psycho IV.

I never saw it but I have heard about it and it stars Bud Court from Harold And Maude fame if I am correct.

I nearly wet my pants when I read the announcement! I love Hitchcock films, I'm just very fortunate that I didn't buy them on DVD so I don't have to worry about double dipping when more of his films come out! I'm really hoping that "Birds", "Vertigo", and "Rear Window" come out within the next few years.

Nice and the UK release seems to be region free, esp good for those who don't want to wait 2 months for the US release.
