don't know why, but that's how i gotta do it.

I know this isn't going to sound like a real answer, but yes and no. Most animated films wouldn't make my top whatever list, and it is rare that any animated movie other than Toy Story 3 or Wall-E really ever competed for my favorite film of a particular year. Granted I didn't really make lists of that sort until I joined here, but still. Like others have said, there is a lot of competition for animated films from a lot of great (imo) live action films, but there are some truly special animated films out there that would at least warrant consideration on my major lists. I won't shy away from putting animated movies with live action ones. They just have to "earn" it.

I Gave praise to many components of the movie and rated it 3 stars. How does that make me an Armond? I liked it, just not as much as some people.

I was just testing to see if you (Squid) got the joke, I thought your (iambearcat) post would be sufficient without a smiley. I haven't even seen Inception yet also. So sorry squid if you took it to heart! I'll do it more obvious next time.

I have Akira in my top 10 or something like that if I ever should make a fairly large list of my all time favourites. I don't see a good reason why we should distinguish between animated from live action movies, a good story told is a good story told.

While I find your accusations that I am a needy-know-it-all insulting and a personal attack, you are certainly entitled to your opinion of me. You have every right to like or dislike me.

That said, what I will not tolerate, is being accused of being a contrarian.

Allow me to provide facts that support my defense.

The Dark Night was a critical and box office smash hit. I was right in there singing its praises along with the movie going masses. I own it.

Toy Story 3 was a box office and critical blowout as well, and again, I alligned with the masses. I'll own it.

Pixars' UP couldnt have received more praise from me. Again, I am snuggled right up next to Joe-6-Pack. I own it.

My strong enjoyment for Pirates of the Caribbean, Iron man, The Hulk and many other Blockbuster films would indicate that I am capable of going with the flow. I own them.

I do not intentionally go against the grain "for attention" as you have implied.

I rated both Avatar and Inception as 3 stars out of five (liked, not loved) and you have taken issue with this. Perhaps your enourmous enjoyment of Avatar and Inception has skewed your ability to allow me to like them less than you do. You have isolated two movies that you love, and used my lack of love for them as evidence to falsely accuse me of being something I am not, a contrarian.

Please dont do that.

I dont bother with lists anymore. I got tired of constanly rearranging them over and over.

as much as it will probably make me lose sleep, i simply have to.
i'm a big fan of lists. for everything. it's very weird with me. when i clean my house i make a list of what to do and in what order. sometimes, for fun (yes, fun haha) i rearrange the list alphabetically just to see what it looks like. which i know seems absolutely ridiculous and unfun, but that's me.

and i am determined to make a "favorite's list"

I didn't buy the original either, the remastered one will be along soon it would seem.

I'll pick it up once I can grab it for $15.
I am a damn genius. My plan worked. I bought it for 10 bucks in anticipation of the re-do. Now I make the exchange and I have the superior copy for 10 smackers.

Colin Firth and Julianne Moore are outstanding in this film and get a whole star for their performance, although I have some issues with choices the director makes that are overtly pounded over your head in what is generally a very subtle film. Overall, a well paced, dialogue driven character study. Even though it has a gay theme, the message is universal to all.
What parts are those?

You make a valid point.

I may not rack my brain thinking up a list after all and just stick with my top 3 as list enough...though I have been rethinking my #3 of late.

Empire Strikes Back has been in that spot for a while now but I think it should be replaced...but with what I'm not sure yet

Miral has all the tools to be a best picture winner, but I just think it'll go to The Way Back. Both are topically right down the Academy's alley, so it'll be a tough call. Tree of Life won't win because although almost all critics love Malick, I can't see them giving it to one of his films.
Tree of Life has Penn and Pitt though. They will give two more serious reasons to make it a worthy Oscar contender (Penn more so).

I think it is impossible to tell right now who will be at the top of Oscar season. Some of the best films to be nominated every year come out of obscurity only at the end of the year (even granted the predictability of rightfully giving Eastwood's films a nod as well as the expansion to 10 best picture nominees).

Yeah, I'm not big into lists myself, at least not ordered ones. If I was asked to list my top 30 I could do it, but not in order.

And I definitely agree with you, which is why I'm amused ppl are proclaiming Inception to be a best picture lock or the potential winner. There are always unknown films that come out of nowhere.

I agree about Tree of Life, but since details are so sparse about it it's tough to know just how dominant of a role each actor will have, and if it's a picture that highlights their acting ability. We all know Malick is my fav director and he gets good performances out of his actors, but they're never top-notch performances because the cinematography and voice-over are what's dominant.

Btw, I'm almost positive that you won't like 8 1/2, but I hope I'm wrong. It's a VERY different kind of film, and I was pretty confused when I watched it recently. I understood a lot more about it when I came here and got some insight from some of these guys. 400 Blows was good, but again, I don't think it's your kinda film. I blind bought it when it was on sale and then Netflixed it before I opened it. I didn't like it that much so it's still sealed on my shelf, but that was a while ago, so I'll need to rent it again before I decide to keep it. Summer Hours is the modern film of the bunch, and is much more easily enjoyed, but I didn't find the story or characters too interesting. It's a well done film, just not my cup of tea

I haven't seen too many Criterions but I think Days of Heaven is fantastic, so maybe try that someday. It might end up being like 2001 for you, where you respect it but find it boring, but I hope you'll like it as much as I do
Maybe youre right, im looking into days of heaven though. But i dont understand why i wouldnt like 81/2 if its suppose to be a masterpiece. I should at least enjoy it a little since its already gained the MASTERPIECE stamp
