Blackraven, you have a point. It IS your choice to buy whatever you can afford and no one can take that away from you. Writesimply has a point too. This is a format WAR. In war, does it help the side that you have picked if you started putting in work for the other side? Does that help the war end quicker or just draws it out longer? I guess the real question everyone needs to ask themselves is, do I want the quickest possible end to this format war or not? Then base you buying decisions on that answer.

Realistically I don't think that you have to tell 'bi-format' people to buy BDs over HD DVDs when you have a choice.
Personally my purchases are as follows: BD exclusive - no brainer ![]() Paramount - get BD (though the missing 'IME' on MI III was slightly annoying). Warner - BD or wait for lossless audio releases. Not buying much Warner period due to the lack of lossless audio on the BDs. Universal - if there is a movie I must have I will get it. Hasn't been many so far ![]() I think the main reason I have the A1 is not to buy movies from the US - I am more interested in the foreign movies that come from Studio Canal and UK distributors. I am not interested in furthering HD DVD's goals in the USA. |

Well the reason I posted my comments is simple:
![]() If people here think BD has gained enough traction to make Universal notice, then there is no point in prolonging the "war". CES 2007 and its many PR announcements will be good indicators of this traction. It's not like I could mind control anyone into not buying HD-DVDs. I'm not Dark Phoenix, you know. ![]() fuad |

On High Def Digest release dates pending:
HD DVD has 15 discs being released between 26 Dec and 10 Apr Blu-ray has 57 discs being released between 26 Dec and 10 Apr Quite a startling difference It amazes me how many HD DVD fanboys there are on AVS and highdefdigest forums. They are very vocal and militant in their defence of HD DVD. One guy recently posted that HD DVD has won the format war!!! http://forums.highdefdigest.com/showthread.php?t=1184 CES 2007 is going to be very interesting. |

Blu-ray now has more players in people's homes than HD DVD. HD DVD is all but dead in Japan (leaders in adopting new technology before the rest of the world). It seems like HD DVD is already failing in Australia. Italy strongly prefers Blu-ray due to the PS3. Blu-ray has beat them to the French market. I don't really know how things are shaping up in the UK. HD DVD is quickly losing their lead here in the US in movie sales. To have a few country already in your pocket already speaks volumes. I can't wait to see what these people are writing in the next 6 to 8 months. It will be too funny! ![]() |

I live in Australia. HD DVD has not even been released yet. No players or movies. In every electronics store there are huge Blu-ray displays and the movies are available for sale next to them. The Panasonic and Samsung players are available and also the Blu-ray burners.
The HD DVD fanboys can talk about sales all they want. All they have are sales and at this early stage in the game both HD DVD and Blu-ray sales are very poor in comparison to DVD so I do not think it is any indicator. HD DVD fanboys like to make fun of the PS3. Actually I think they are worried. The PS3 is going to be a huge seller in 2007. There are already more PS3 in homes than the total number of HD DVD players. Blu-ray has huge support. In 2007 it will have many more players available and will have the majority of the movies. Warner has said that they are going to be releasing all their HD DVD movies on Blu-ray and Disney will be releasing many of their movies in 2007. CES 2007 is going to be very Blu. |

![]() In all other countries Blu-ray is higher in the chart (remember, I said a true Google trend, not the one that's around). Maybe this is the reason they released Harry Potter 4 over there, to see if they can generate more following. (Or maybe they released it there because of the interest) (Anyway, HP 1-4 will be out in the Blu before the end of 2007, maybe on a lump by summer or Xmas, or one each every month or so between Summer premiere of HP 5 and the xmas DVD (and Blu) of it..) Probably the Spring launch of the PS3 has most to do with the current British HD DVD interest reflected on the Google trends. |

Read my sig, it still hasn't had an official launch i.e. no other player than the X360 add-on is available to us until late Jan. Most people don't care about Hi-def discs in general here as broadcast HD uses AVC at 10-14Mb 720p for Sky, and 20-22 1080i for BBC/NTL:Telewest. So quality of HD in the UK is much higher, but our only problem is the quantity, as Sky are the only real company to really push HD. This could be because they introduced HDTVs at the wrong time in the cycle of replacement of household goods, more likely it costs too much money to broadcast HD signals compared to SD signals. |

My personal prediction for CES is as follows:
1) There will be no CE companies with hardware shown at the show other then Toshiba and clones for HD-DVD. 2) There will be even more CE companies with hardware shown at the show for Blu-Ray, including LG and possibly sharp and who knows who else. 3) Universal will announce a bunch of flicks due out this year for HD-DVD. Warner and Paramount will as well, but you can just add them to the already dominate list of Blu-Ray flicks announced already. Anything Paramount and Warner release from now on is same day both formats, so really no advantage to hd-dvd what so ever. 4) Sony will announce some big titles including Casino Royal, Disney will put dates for Cars, Pirates and hopefully 1-2 Classic animation flicks. Fox will announce even more top tier titles, such as X-Men box set, the Die Hards and hopefully the entire Alien box set. MGM will announce the classic Bonds. 5) Sony will announce that there are over 1 million Blu-Ray players in homes during CES. 6) Gen 2 hardware will be shown by Samsung at the least. 7) Many HD-DVD Fanatics will become teary eye'd at the huge news from CES and will become ever more desperate for good news for HD-DVD. There will be at least 1 stabbing of a Best Buy employee from a disgruntled HD-DVD Fanatic from AVS shortly after CES. 8) All studios and CE companys will again give 100% support for blu-ray as its the industrys choice for the next gen, and not Toshibas. Thats about it. |

![]() ![]() It does seems that in the BD Player forum at AVSF, more people are asking tech questions about the PS3 than about all other players right now - certainly not the Pioneer. First it was the Samsung, then the BD burners, then the Panasonic, then the Samsung firmwares.... And then BOOM! PS3 hits the market. And that forum is never the same since. The same thing happens in the PS3 Gaming forum. Trojan Horse indeed. Can't wait to see what SCE and BDA has to say about the PS3. fuad |
