( just kidding )

I know how you feel, but that is really unlikely, however I would LOVE to see that worked into a flashback scene during one of Jake's video log's. That would seem to be a logical and somewhat easy place to edit it into
When did he have a flashback during one of his video logs, that doesn't seem like it'd fit.

If the collector's edition doesn't have the theatrical then I wont be buying it.

Hmm, I dont think it would work as a flashback.

It really needs to be something that takes place before the rest of the movie I think.

He never did. I am just grasping at straws.

Cameron has said that in putting the Earth scenes in at the beginning would ruin those great opening shots. So I do not see him adding that to the extended edition.

What are these Earth scenes you guys are talking about, some sign that the planet was thrashed?

The original opening of the movie took place on Earth

After the opening shot of the forests of Pandora where Jake talks about "you always have to wake up" His eyes open and he is on a street on earth, rather than already in the Cryo chamber.

Its about 5 minutes long, and shows how life on Earth looks, gives you a better view of what kind of person Jake is, how he lives, and how he ended up going to Pandora (parts of that scene are in the movie, as flashbacks in the opening).

These scenes were all completed before they were cut.

Here is some of the Earth concept art:

Its a very depressing place, covered in trash, people wearing breathing masks, the streets are illuminated with ads that cover the sky, etc.

And a bar room brawl too.

BTW, what 2000 year old historical figure does Jake resemble here?

I guess they figured the movie was depressing enough due to the attempted slaughter of the Na'Vi and the idea of a dying Earth.

Right now, as I type this, there are two forums talking about just this: The DONNIE DARKO thread, and the CLOSE ENCOUNTERS thread.

Both films have a “Special Edition” where extra footage is/was included, and neither was well received or liked by fans OR the Directors themselves. “Special Edition” is another word for “Extended Edition”, or “Hey, the studio wants to make more money from the same thing, so we’re going to sell you a few extra minutes, but charge you the full price Edition

Don’t you understand? Every movie in the world has “extra footage”. Does that mean we should see it?

A Directors Cut is a different story. A Directors Cut is usually (supposed to be) the definitive version. It’s supposed to be the version that never got to see theaters because the studio rushed the Director to get some finished product on the screen by a deadline. Actually, most Directors Cuts end up removing scenes.
Well...

Extended, Unrated: is some times more of a longer runtime, not nessacarly adding anything to the story. Yes sceens are longer, or there are a few scenes added or changes. a few good extended cuts or Unrated are, LOTRs 1-3, SAW1-6, there are more, but I think that forum members would get mad at some titles.

Special Edition: It's more for the fans of the film, and as I see it, the up coming AVATAR Spical Edition as Cameron's way of saying thank you to his fans, and as a little teaser for the Nov release So your not fan, don't watch it

Directors Cut "Directors Vision": Yes your so totally right. this is the how the director wanted to look and/or as close to her/his vision.

You're right.

But wait wait.. lets not get carried away about James C saying "Thank You" - That would be like thinking a stripper is "thanking you" when she comes over and dances for you for an extra three minutes, but than charges you anyway. It would be a "thank you" if it was free.

Uhmm... I'm going to ignore that stripper comment, seeing that I've never been and never will go. Seening that I would rather speend my money of film, BD, and Anime DVD/BDs

But I was saying, "to me" its his way of saying thanks by ADDING the extra footage, that cost a ton of money to complete. Silly:P

I'm fine with paying for that, then the above

I'm using the stripper example as a way to show how "desperate" some people get. I'm not saying you are, but it's like this:

Some guys think "OMG, THAT STRIPPER LIKES ME. SHE KEEPS COMING OVER"

Hmmm, they work for tips.

So I dont want people thiking this is a favor that James C is doing. If James C went out and shot new footage for you, that would be different. But he already shot all this... he doesnt want to waste it. It's called a "business decsion". He works for money, just like the stripper

Its neither all of his extended movies are Special Edtions, just something special for the fans to enjoy.
The finished first versions are the Directors Cuts

IIRC, the teaser trailer showed Jake going thru a bar/pool hall. Hopefully these will be part of the next release!
