December 1st the release date for the Panasonic 3D edition is nearly a year from Avatars release date. If they can give Panasonic a 3D version there is no reason whatsoever they can't release it for everyone. None except to double dip consumers. Its obvious to anyone who takes an honest look at what Fox and Cameron are doing that it is purely money focused. Will you please stop pissing on my leg and telling me that its rain? |

Yeah, if you buy a Panasonic tv or maybe pay hundreds of dollars on ebay. I love the movie (just saw the extended, it's awesome) but it's sad and discouraging that they're doing this. You'd think considering the message of the movie that they wouldn't try to leech off fans like that. It's all for, as Jake Sully says, "the paper in your wallet."

I'd say the extended version is easily the better film, feels more rounded out and complete. Most of the scenes blend smoothly and it's a nice edit. The school scene and Tsuteys death are IMO the best additions, both add either some additional background info or character depth. The hunt is just pure visual spectacle on an incredible scale, worth seeing on the big screen for sure. Aside from all the major additions, there are several smaller moments which add to their relationship, which is nice.

Yeah I would check it out, I just saw it earlier today and loved it. All the new scenes blend seamlessly. More of Pandora is never a bad thing.

Confirmed: Avatar 3D Blu-ray Panasonic Exclusive
Posted September 3, 2010 04:49 AM by Juan Calonge Blu-ray 3DPanasonic marketing executives have confirmed to TWICE that the electronics maker will be the exclusive launch partner of 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment for the 3D Blu-ray Disc release of Avatar in "early December." Thus, the 3D BD of James Cameron's sci-fi epic will only be available to buyers of a Panasonic 3D Viera plasma TV. Exact details and conditions of this promotional offer are still to be announced. It is not known whether buyers of Panasonic Blu-ray players or home theater systems would be eligible for an Avatar 3D Blu-ray. The duration of this exclusivity arrangement has not been specified either, but The Digital Bits ventures that it could be "as long as a year or more." Victor Carlson, Panasonic's consumer marketing VP, said that Panasonic is working on a plan to make the Avatar 3D Blu-ray Disc available to customers who have already purchased a Panasonic 3D Viera TV, in order to "do the right thing" for its early-adopter customers. However, details on this initiative are still being worked out as well. "For the consumer, there is really no better way to experience 3D in the home than with this particular disc," said Carlson. "This is the perfect marriage between this blockbuster made for 3D and what we think is the ultimate home entertainment system for enjoying 3D using our TV sets." Carlson said that this bundle would provide consumers who are on the fence "a really great incentive to make the purchase while giving them a fantastic piece of content to watch on the television set." However, in his opinion what makes a difference in a potential buyer is "the entire package of what the Panasonic plasma has for the consumer." |

Question about these "exclusive" 3D BDs bundled with particular hardware purchases...
are the BDs actually *included* in the physical box? Or are they something you have to send off in the mail to get with copies of receipts and serial numbers etc. and then wait 6 weeks? Does anyone know about Best-Buy's return policy on televisions? ![]() |

Hope you paid cash. Or they'll hit your credit card for the full cost of the returned set.
Plus there's the insane cost of the restocking fee for products like that. Which was put into place to prevent people buying big screen expensive TVs for Super Bowl parties and then returning them afterwards. |
