Question final fantasy

Okay, can anyone explain to me the completely random order the final fantasy games came out in? Though I never played any, I was always put off by the fact that 3 came out after 5 and so on. WHat the hell? Am I wrong? Please help me.

If you're talking about the older FF games it's probably due to them coming out in Japan and then coming to the USA later on. The market wasn't as big here so they didn't originally release all the games right away. As for the new ones, they have all been released in order haven't they?

Since FFVII they have been released in order, previous to that they were different release numbers than Japan.

Yes II was FF IV in Japan, III was FFVI in Japan. V was eventually release in the US as the same version, many years after Japan. FF I for the NES I believe corresponds to the same in Japan, but slightly altered. The II and III Japanese versions I don't believe ever "officially" came to the US.

well that's not confusing at all no but really that was helpful. But why did they have to change the names at all???

I agree, damn confusing. I think they wanted to start off the American releases in numerical order... instead of going from "1", to "4", which would have confused a lot of people, they chose "2". I'm glad once the series really took off they kept the numbers the same.

All I need to know is that if it says Final Fantasy on it, it's probably awesome.

depends where. FFIII is even released at about the same time (for the first time) as FFXII in USA, but long time ago in USA.
I own all of them, except FFXI (online). My PS1 FFs are all PAL (UK) - with addition of FFVII International - Japanese, my PS2 FFs are Japanese (although I also bought some of them in english because they got extra content), and FFIII is on DS

One more thing, I believe FFIV was released in USA as FFII before, but the true FFII (Japanese FFII) is finally released in English speaking countries

Unless it's FFXI, which was essentially "World of Warcraft" before WoW was cool, and the new FFVII: Dirge of Cerberus, which's basically just an off-topic shooter.

Anything before VII was a SNES game (unless it's been updated for PSP), but the PS order is:
- VII through X in numerical order
- X-2 sequel (shoujo spinoff with the X girls)
- Then skip to XII.
And don't even bother with the Movie.
