I swear, I am going to go bankrupt this month! So many great films being released within weeks of each other: Pyscho, Rocky Horror, Back to the Future, Aliens, Sound of Music...

Danger! Danger!

This is all great news! I am going to go ahead and import this from the UK. I can't seem to find the steelbook edition at the price mentioned above so, i'll probably just get the non-Steelbook edition.

While I am shopping at Amazon UK, can anyone recommend any other Blu's that I should import, that are a decent price and that will play on a US PS3?

Just received Psycho a day early from Amazon. Only the 2nd time I've gotten a movie from them before release date! Don't know if I'll have time to watch tonight though.

well i was going to pick this up or order it tomorrow but i'm glad i saw here first that the US 2.0 will only be lossy. was hoping to watch this on blu before halloween but will have to order from amazon uk now so who knows. should've just ordered from uk a month ago. i do prefer the cover art on the us version to the standard red uk version though, although the steelbook is quite nice.

are there any differences slight or otherwise in the film itself between uk/us cut or are they exactly the same?

How can the US version have a lossy soundtrack when reviews I'm reading are giving it top scores in audio? I think you're all reaching for something that isn't there. The tech specs on the page for the US blu-ray list it has such: English: DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1. What is everyone seeing that I'm not?

I just got this in the mail today from Amazon and I have only scanned through the movie but it looks great. I may have to import the steelbook(I am addicted to steels/ironpacks)

they are talking about the 2.0 mono track.. the uk one is lossless and the US one is lossy..although it says 24bit and the UK is 16bit...hmmm only hearing them side by side can one really tell.

Watched Psycho on blu today and I must say it was really great to finally have this in true widescreen. The previous DVD was non anamorphic. The picture looks great and the DTS-HD Master 5:1 track is very good. I really didn't notice much of any surround effects. I think maybe the music was more immersive. I think lossy is OK on the mono track for this. The crisp black and white photography looked really good on Blu.

I believe they were referring to the original track that had significantly less channels as being lossy. So if you want lossless, you don't get the original track as such, you have to settle for the 5.1.

that's not true.
Psycho was released in a "Legacy" edition 2 disc dvd set that has the same artwork as the US bd that was most certainly anamorphic.
that is the latest version of the film before the bd.

I guess that sorta makes sense but what's wrong with it being in 5.1?

The 2.0 track is the original audio mix that was used theatrically. The 5.1 track is a new remix of that track that has been altered and artificially "enhanced" to make limited use of the rear speakers and subwoofer in a surround system.

To put it bluntly, the 5.1 track has a bunch of new sound FX that were not in the original mix. Think what happened with Jaws or The Terminator on DVD. Probably the most glaring for me was when Marion pulls up to the Bates Motel in the rain with her windshield wiper turned on. Just A-B the two tracks and the difference is obvious. Thankfully the original audio is included on the Blu-ray, but the only version that offers it in lossless quality is unfortunately the UK one.

I agree with you 100 percent, I watched it saturday night after i received it via fed ex earlier in the day. And thought it was a very beautiful presentation.
Universal did a great job with this movie. I spent my lunch break on sunday going through all the special features on my laptop. (which are pretty much all the same features from the prior dvd releases) and wound up finding myself rewatching the begining of the movie again today durring lunch.
One of the all time best horror movies gets a great HD transfer, cant wait to see universals upcomming release of the birds.

Does anyone know what the bitrate is on the 2.0 track? I am guessing (and hoping) it's probably going to be pretty high in which case no one should really even be able to tell the difference between the lossless version and the lossy one.
