It looks like the people are really beginning to like Blu-ray, and I am sure that WB sees this too.
As for those brining up Disney, WHAT MAKES YOU THINK THEY WOULD GO NEUTRAL!?!?! Disney has NEVER even remotely said anything like they were thinking of going neutral, they never did anything to make one think they were interested in it.. it is all pure HD DVD FUD. Disney loves Blu-ray, it has made them a lot of money especially with the PotC movies and Pixar as well. Also their Disney Blu-ray Magical Tour, their ads pointing out how well Blu-ray is doing, their announcements saying how much they love Blu-ray...
Disney is as Blu as you can get.
For the record Disney is paying to have a spokesperson at many BB promoting the advantages of blu. I might add that they're new promo disc is something well out of .....Disney!!! To even suggest that Disney is going neutral is purely idiotic.

HD-DVD cannot provide copy right protection and refused to provide region encode so it seems highly unlikely. Besides if WB go BD exclusive it will never happen.

I dont think we will see any REAL news untill CES. Maybe we will get another leek. It would be best for people planning on buying one or the other if WB would go ahead and anounce something. This would keep some from making a waisted purchase of a hd dvd player.

Has Jeff Bewkes said anything about the HDM. This is likely not high on his list, but has he publicly said anything on blu-ray?

Still, you'd think WB wants to control the timing of this, and not have these leaks make life difficult for everyone.

Don't forget there's also the hd dvd hail mary play, where green suitcases can still show up.

Is this site credible at all? I never heard of them before. Did they just read the business week article and write the same thing? Or are they truly insiders?
Their report was the very first anyone who wasn't an insider knew about the Paramount deal.

This info was then posted by a reporter ('Nikki'?) which was the first time the Paramount deal leaked out.

So yes, they do know what they're talking about.

Toshiba HD-A3 already its damage to BDA, outselling all of Blu-Ray players combined by the factor of 2:1 during Black Friday and increasing its installed base lead to 550K vs 200K in the US.
200K is complete nonsense. He uses lies mixed in with facts to push an agenda.

SUNDAY PM: I've learned there will be two new developments announced later this week today in the ongoing Blu-ray vs HD-DVD format war: separate HD-DVD deals with Paramount and DreamWorks Animation that involve major millions of dollars. I've got a confidential report from Pali Research managing director Richard S. Greenfield, a media analyst for entertainment and cable, that discussed the deals (see below), spinning them as "the format war is now set to intensify".

I agree. My comment was based on what would happen if Warner went HD DVD exclusive. Even then, the Disney thing was just a question. I don't necessarily think they would go dual format. Then again, we live in a country that voted twice for Bush.... So anything is possible...

As JTK noted before, the diehards come out of the woodwork when they are scared. There will be an all out push to discredit any and all of these reports.

Deadmeat's comment is funny, the "first wave" of chinese players is here.. woohoo... they're not much cheaper than the cheapest BD players, which are brand-name. Wait till the chinese BD players arrive!

If Universal is so anti-DRM and doesn't want to use region-coding and BD+, there's nothing that requires them to do so to release on Blu, is there?

Finally, I also find it very unusual that we have no public comments from Warner... just hints of "unpleasant" backroom damage control by Maxpower (and I don't know his situation very well, is it at all interesting that he's in on the damage control?)...

Bill Hunt is talking about the sub $300 players and encouraging people to buy them even going so far as to say that some retailers are offering free discs with them. He also notes that people thinking maybe they should support both shouldn't buy into either as it is just proloinging the war.

By the way... for those of you thinking maybe it makes sense to buy BOTH Blu-ray and HD-DVD to cover your bases, it would frankly be smarter just to buy neither. I know it's tempting for enthusiasts to buy both, but keep this in mind: Supporting both is only going to continue prolonging this format war, when what we all really need is for this thing to end as soon as possible.

Going back from this perspective is not quite so painful. Actually I've been depressed ever since.

No, they'll just say it's because Sony paid them off. When told that HD DVD paid off Paramount/DreamWorks, they'll say that Paramount switched due to HD DVD's superior Interactive Features and cheaper players...

I don't understand why the need for damage control on the Blu-Ray side. Unless there are ongoing negotiations that haven't been finalized.

Anyone have any thoughts?

Warner are still selling movies on HD-DVD, they want to maximise sales right up until the switch is made.

Similar to how Sony denied to PS3 price cut.
