Thankyou for the compliment then. I'll have a review for the 3d version done sooner or later (hopefully).

I bet you're going to give it perfect scores for video quality and audio quality. Just a hunch.

I don't like to give scores as I think they detract from what is important (the discussion of what is right and wrong). But in terms of vq the original Avatar had one minor moment of aliasing but was otherwise perfect if my memory serves me well.

Also as every 3d blu-ray has had some ghosting so far, I would be suprised if Avatars didn't. It would be awesome if it didn't though.

Default Capturing Avatar

OMG!! The Capturing Avatar is so amazing. I was worried that this "Making of..." will ruin the illusion of the movie (you know: "oh, yes this is just a movie, not the dream like world I imagined at first"). BUT I don't know how but this feature suck you in even more!!

p.s. I hope that this wasn't the last release (maybe a 5th anniversary), because in deleted scenes there are around 20-25 min. of cool, interesting and beautiful scenes. Unfortunately there are lots of CG so it's expensive...

As good as it is, I think this is the first time that I find Laurent Bouzereau's work somewhat underwhelming. Maybe it's just because there was so much to tell, and just 1:40 hour to do so.

Also, the narrative thread was not as cohesive as I would have liked.

But of course, that's only me nitpicking.

By the by, I have yet to watch all the bonus materials, but, is there any specific information on how they turned Worthington into a cripple? I am referring to his legs, of course.

I haven't watched all the features yet, but I haven't come across it. It's definitely something I'm curious about too though.

The legs were prosthetics made at Weta Workshop IIRC. Worthington crouched in his wheelchair, and what you could see of his legs were erased in post (he was wearing green pants)

I've never seen prosthetics that looked that realistic before, they must've been quite expensive.

I do wonder why it costs so much to fully render a scene. The unfinished product looks like a PS1 game. I can't imagine finishing the scene wouldn't be any more difficult then clicking "render scene" in the software. But I don't know anything. I'm sure it really does take $1 million to finish.

It's the time and resources that it takes to render an image (let alone a full scene) like that. There are so many different codes and simulations running. So it is "render scene" but it can often take days or weeks for scenes to finish. The render farms on these films are huge and it still takes a lot of time.

Every frame takes 20 hours average to render with some frames taking as long as 100 hours to complete the final renders. They have to have numerous animators sync the facial muscles in the animation with the motion capture, you have to make sure the lighting realistically hits the objects, you have several different objects in any frame. This is hard even for low budget animation like The Clone Wars but for a movie advanced as Avatar its simply a nightmare to get done. Every frame of Avatar requires a ridiculous amont of work.

Here is a pretty good video interviewing a guy from WETA and how much work they put into it just to make the 3D look right. Its pretty technical, just a warning.

Part 1

Part 2 focuses more on the CGI and backgrounds

The Extended Cut is nice, though I was hoping it'd be like, 30 minutes longer. I'll have to check out those deleted scenes for any extra content that might've made for good additions.

The extended cut should have been like 35-40 minutes longer total based off the scenes that ended up as only deleted scenes
