Dodgers signed Jon Garland today. Great news IMO. We may not have 2 aces on our team but we've got a pretty damn solid 5 rotation now.

1. Kershaw, 2. Billingsley, 3. Lilly, 4. Kuroda, 5. Garland.

If we can just find some power now, we're right back in the game I think.

The 10 years I can understand, because of the likelihood (more so at the time of the deal, but it still exists today) of him becoming the new HR leader, and the Yankees wanting him to be a Yankee when that happened. The $25m per year part does seem a bit high, considering no other team was even close.

I think Jeter (or at least his agent) is using that idea of milestones as a negotiating tactic. He's a little more than 80 hits away from 3k, and would be the first Yankee ever with that many hits. They might argue if the Yankees give him a longer deal (4, 5, 6 years) he could even crack 4,000 hits.

The only news is that they are officially divorced now this week and went into one last mediation hearing. There's been talk that they've been given an ultimatum to settle with each other in the next month, which is almost laughable to me with these two egos in play.

I don't get the holdup over this. Neither party ever had enough money to buy out the other person's share of the team. They could have sold the team a year ago and just gotten it over with. From what I was reading they were heavily leveraged anyway.

Never underestimate the bitterness of a husband and wife and what they feel they are entitled to. They basically bought the entire team on credit. How Bud Selig ever approved of that sale to begin with is beyond me.

I think it has everything to do with jealousy. Not necessarily just A-Rod either but all these mammoth contracts they've been throwing around. Seems like all the money the Yankees have been throwing around like it's play money might finally be coming back to bite them in the ass now. It just amazes me how this "team captain" can try to extort them like this though. It's not like he hasn't been rewarded from the Yankees all these years. He has much more to lose than the Yankees IMO. Like that golden boy image he's now trying to cash in on that is already being tainted the more this draws out.

The Minneapolis Star Tribune's Joe Christensen reports that the Twins are "determined" to tender J.J. Hardy a contract by next Thursday's deadline.
It doesn't necessarily mean he'll be back in Minnesota next season, as the Twins can still tender him a contract and trade him. With news that the team is looking at Japanese infielder Tsuyoshi Nishioka as a second baseman and not a shortstop, the odds of Hardy remaining with the Twins are greater, but they could also just put Alexi Casilla at short. Anthony Mccarron and Bill Madden of the New York Daily News are reporting that Derek Jeter’s agent, Casey Close, is asking the Yankees for a five-year deal worth $22-24 million per season.
That equates to either $110 or $120 million. Madden was the one that reported the six-year, $150 million figure Friday prior to a New York Times report that said Jeter's camp was looking for a four- or five-year deal worth $23-24 million per season. So, it appears we know basically what Close is wanting annually, it's just a matter of whether he's wanting five years or will settle for four. yea i dont agree with that at all.... this is a business.... why would you not try and get the best possible deal (which requires negotiating) for as long as possible??

Just becuase hes "The Golden Child" doesnt mean he shouldnt try and get as much money as possible for as long as possible....

are you kidding me, first Huff, now Uribe... Ned must have a hard on for Giants players... Uribe will def be missed as he was a huge part of us winning the title this year... def an overpayment at $21mil.. But Giants fans will miss him...

It's pretty much the same rationalization as the Yankees taking Johnny Damon from the Red Sox after 2004, make yourself stronger and the team that just won the World Series gets weaker.
