1080i Blu-rays will look much, much better than 480p DVDs. They will also look much better than 'upconverted' DVDs.

I don't see an HDMI input on your TV specs, though. You can still run component out to get analog 1080i - many people say this works great.

The only limitation of not using HDMI is that the PS3 does not allow 1080p over component cables (you need HDMI), but this is not a concern for you because your TV isn't capable of 1080p anyway.
