Just a heads up that the Yankees have denied any interest in Carlos Zambrano (besides, he has a no trade clause). So sorry Yankee haters, the nutcase won't be pitching in the BX (unless the Cubs come to Yankee stadium).

That one is going to be tough since he's going to want "closer money" and probably not going to be a set up man (he would be a ideal successor for Mariano).

Well, we know he can pitch in NY but my only concern is can he handle AL hitters (especially the RS since they are a lefty heavy lineup).

Do they have any young pitcher they could groom to be their future closer like when Mariano was a setup guy for Wetteland before moving to closer? I know they wanted Joba for that role but it's obvious at this point he'll never be that guy.

I'm not a Cubs fan but I've always been a bit sad looking back at the careers of Wood and Prior. Those guys had a ton of potential but injuries destroyed both careers.

Sounds like Uggla will stay in the ATL longer then one year if this pans out.

That's great news. Says he's seeking around $12 mill per year. If true that sounds fairly reasonable considering he's a consistent low 30's HR/90-100'ish RBI player. His batting average has finally started to improve too.

More so Prior because he hasn't returned to the majors in a while. He was really special in 03, I thought he would dominate forever.

Yeah I hope so too. He is going to be the 8th inning setup guy for Marmol. Kind of role reversal from 08 when Kerry closed and Marmol was the setup guy.

lol it would have been a travesty if he was allowed to leave that quickly.

From what I've read the Wood family had decided they were going to return to Chicago once his career ended, and they still have their home in Chicago. I wouldn't be surprised if other teams offered him more but the family decided they'd rather get permanently settled in Chicago since they have young daughters. It's not like money is really an issue, he's made almost $70 million during his career so he probably thought it was worth going someplace he liked rather than go after an extra million or so.

Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reports that Orlando Hudson's new deal with the Padres is worth $11.5 million over two years.
Hudson is getting a slight raise over what he made last year in Minnesota despite having one of the worst offensive seasons of his career. The Padres must be pretty confident in his ability to bounce back. For what it's worth, he is still a strong defender and still boasts a career .280/.346/.424 batting line. If the Friars complete that trade for Jason Bartlett, they'll have made a real offensive upgrade in their middle infield this winter.

The Twins payroll is going to be over $100 million again this year and they just spent $20 million on a Japanese infielder. They aren't going to be crazy with their deals though. They want Carl Pavano back but aren't going to break the bank on a 35-year old Type A free agent. The Twins never intended to re-sign Hudson. They believe Alexi Casilla is ready to be an everyday second baseman.

It would be nice if he could have the kind of season next year that Danny Valencia did at 3B as a fill-in but I'm not holding my breath.

Angels GM Tony Reagins told Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times that his club has made a "significant" offer to free agent Adrian Beltre.
Beltre seems to be slow-playing the market, waiting for a desperate team to throw him the $80 million contract that he wants. The 31-year-old hit .321/.365/.553 with 28 home runs and 102 RBI this past season for the Red Sox while playing his usual brand of excellent defense at third base. The Rangers are thought to be in the running for him, and the A's were too at one point. Dec. 17 - 3:36 pm et

Cliff Lee's wife may have been harrassed by Yankee fans but I have a feeling the wife of their new catcher Russell Martin won't have such problems.
