Thanks roar! I never knew there was such a difference between an Original Movie Poster and a reprint. Man are originals a work of art. The colors are so brilliant and I can actually see out lines of different objects on each poster. It's crazy!

The difference between reprints and originals is really night and day, I didn't realize either until I made my backlit poster box. I can't see myself buying another print to be honest, the 'real' ones are just that much better.

Yes originals are quite vibrant and colorful, but as you know, lots of reproductions do exist so ALL collectors need to stay sharp, because they are out there. Generally they are fairly easy to spot too.

The advance style for Suckerpunch should be hitting theaters this coming week. It is the only official movie poster for the film released so far, the character ones were never posters, only promotional images, but were never posters for the theaters, so this advance hitting theaters will mark the first official style. My guess is we will see one more style by the film's release the end of March.
Green Lantern advance should be hitting soon, I am surprised it wasn't released around the holidays. Also we should probably be seeing an advance for The Hangover 2 soon as well. |

Hey guys, just had a couple of questions....
Just started collecting, managed to pick up a few limited editions from Mondotees (Mike Saputo's Iron Man 2, Tyler Stout's latest Star Wars), but I had a question about buying reprints. Gasp. I know. But I love the look of just a plain dry mounted foam board poster, and I don't want to destroy any original one sheets. What's the best place to buy inexpensive, but decent quality reprints? I'm having a hard time getting The Thing and Alien in a 26x38 size.... Any ideas? |

There are lots of options to buy reprints out there, just about every poster dealer carries them, some official reprints, some unauthorized knock-offs. There are a few dealers who charge upwards of $30 for a reprint, which is laughable because in most cases you can actually buy the original for that price or less (newer releases, etc) so if you were given a choice between an original for $30 or a reprint for the same price, it's kind of obvious to go with the original. For originals I don't endorse dry mounting/foam board, it devalues the poster, but for reprints, you could go that route, however, most places charge for that, say $10-$20. So if you buy a reprint, lets say for $15 somewhere, and you spend another $10-$20 for the form board dry mounting processing, you are into it $25-35. Or you can just buy an original, keep it rolled since it has value and is a collectible, and get it framed later on down the road. For The Thing, Alien, etc originals are quite expensive, so yes I can see going the reprint route. You can try AllPosters.com, Art.com, etc for stuff like that. |

I could totally see that happening, these Alamo Drafthouse posters are quite amazing. However, after seeing one of the varients with the metallic inks, I think it would be difficult to reproduce fakes for any sort of profit. I mean, the printing process alone here in Canada would cost 250$, let alone the super thick stock they're printed on. I'm so pumped to get this TStout one in the mail and frame it up, I've totally fallen in love with his drawing style. I would absolutely LOVE to get my hands on his The Thing rendition, but last time I saw it on eBay it sold for over 1200$. Dang. I'll cross my fingers and keep hoping, lol.
I've check those links above to no avail for what I've been looking for for reprints, so I guess I'll keep looking. There is a place down in Calgary that might have what I'm looking for, so I'll check that out the next time I'm down there. |

Hi guys,
Great subject! I run a film memorabilia business in the UK (one of our main lines is original movie posters) and in my spare time am a collector of (usually extravagent) DVD/Blu-ray limited edition releases from around the world so hopefully can usefully contribute to the forums and this thread. The Sucker Punch advance one sheet arriving in US theatres now is the artwork below: ![]() I've not seen it in the flesh yet (hopefully will be here early next week) but the image certainly looks nice ![]() I'm told Green Lantern is expected by the end of the week but no idea of the artwork just yet.. My personal faves are those that are finished with a high gloss coating on one side. Some recent examples being Burlesque (Cher/Christina portrait shots side by side), Green Hornet (advance) and Cowboys & Aliens (advance). There are also foil based, lenticular, UV spot and holofoil - quite often given to the most unlikely of movies (Son Of The Mask and Anacondas anyone?). Best use I think I've seen is the UV coating/embossing done on the various Spider-man 3 one sheets. The gloss finish really does add a nice touch ![]() |
