For being new to hi-def you got some pretty sweet gear with that xbr4 and ps3. Well I don't think that onkyo home theatre has an hdmi input so you would connect the ps3 to the xbr w/ hdmi and set the resolution to 1080p and turn on 24fps support as well in the ps3. Then connect an optical cable from the ps3 to the onkyo and select bitstream audio output via optical from the ps3 sound menu. Without a receiver that has an hdmi input this is the best way to connect it.
