750,000 ps3's in one week? That seems like a lot. It would be nice if you listed the total for each as well, and not just the wtd numbers... Also where is the information coming from?

Are those VGCharts charts? Please do not use those. They are wildly inaccurate guesstimates.

Refer to this graph: http://vgchartz.com/hwcomps.php?cons...39432&weekly=1
It went from 6.79M to 7.21M last week and this week's #s are still awaited in full. Thus far, 0.26M (All Others) has been tabulated for this week. The quantum of increase this week should be more than for last week, which had (as above) 0.42M units sold. Refer http://vgchartz.com/hwcomps.php?cons...39432&weekly=1 Expect to see bigger weekly #s this week than 0.42M (last week's 'All Others' was 0.224M). --- Last edited by What'sHD; 12-18-2007 at 04:33 AM. |

The only accurate measure of hardware sales in North America is released by NPD, who actually get real numbers from the industry.
VGChartz uses some bizarre projection formula to come up with their numbers, and tweaks their formula to make it "fit" to data released from various (biased) sources. |

plus you cant compare the ps3 to the xbox 360's first year because of the fact that there really wasnt any other next generation console when the xbox 360 came out plus the fact that a lot of people were having problems with them when they first came out and is now even worse with the red ring of death that a lot of xbox 360 users are experiencing. but ps3 doesnt have a lot of bad copies out there compared to the xbox 360 so thats a very good sign

I am glad to see that sales are finally up! But the PS3 still has a lot of catching up to do! Yes I think it is possible for the system to reach 11 million by April. The install base is high enough to justify developers concentrating more on the system.... no more excuses!! The killer games must come. GTA4 is coming this Spring which should boost PS3 console sales generally because gamers associate GTA with Playstation. Look for GTA4 and Devil May Cry 4 to help Sony reach it's goal of 11 million and beyond.

hi PS34EVER, the #s in the original post are incorrect, if your source is vgchartz. The correct weekly #s are http://vgchartz.com/hwcomps.php?cons...9068&end=39439
The cumulative sales as of last week were 7.78M, before that, 7.26M and before that, 6.83M. Refer http://vgchartz.com/hwcomps.php?cons...39439&weekly=1 The 8.12M # is not a full representation of the total after this week's sales since it only includes sales for 'Others' (defined as Regions other than US and JP) for the latest week. As you can see on the home page, the columns for America and Japan under "Hardware Sales, 22nd Dec 2007" are empty. The addition of 340K from the 'Others' column to last week's total of 7.78M is what gives us the 8.12M #. 2c |
