Two of my discs (Final Cut and Theatrical/Director's Cut) have rough edges and cause vibration on my PS3 while positioned horziontal. When I stand the PS3 vertically, the vibration stops. Either way, the discs play fine. The vibration noise is just unbearable. The Workprint disc plays fine though.

I would imagine that the slot drive of the PS3 may have something to do with the vibration. A tray loading player may not even be affected by the rough edges.

From what I can recall, I have never purchased any type of disc that is as bad as these. You wouldn't notice buy just looking at them, but when you slide your finger around the edge, you can tell that they are much more rough than the average disc.

They do exist, trust me. I was always one of the first to question these "questionable" problems that always seemed to crop up over at AV Arse Forum. But the first disc in my Blade Runner set does have rough edges. It played fine in my PS3 though.

This is exactly the same problem I am having with my disc. I havent even tried them except for the "Final Cut" disc and the vibration is horrible. I thought it was just me with the lucky copy. I just turn everything up and deal with it, but at a lower volume it does suck.

Can somebody post a "close up" picture of these? I've never seen any discs with "rough edges". How would such a thing come into existance? Anyone have any ideas?

If they really do exist, I imagine that Warner would want to know about it ASAP, determine the cause and get it fixed.

I can take a picture, but it won't be until tomorrow. You might be mislead on the word "rough". The edges aren't sharp, jagged, or anything of that nature. It is more like an excess of plastic that causes a bumpy surface. When looking at the disc from the label perspective, you don't even notice it.

I just checked my set and I think I know what they're talking about. The edge of two or three of the 5 discs have a sort of ripple or slight waviness to them instead of being perfectly smooth. I guess that's what qualifies as a "rough edge". My Blade Runner: Final Cut played without a hitch though, so I don't know where the problems came from. Then again, I'm not watching it via a PS3 either.

I managed to take a few pics of the Blade Runner: Final Cut disc real quickly. They're not the greatest, but should be able to illustrate the point.

It just sickens me to see that piece of "BD made of highest quality" paper together with those rough BDs....
https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...t=blade+runner

i posted a thread about this when i got mine a while ago. for those that suggest using a pencil to smooth it out like a cd, these are more like paint runs in the hard coating, and trust me its HARD lol.

mine vibrate ever so slightly but nothing to complain about for me anyways.

oh well, at least i just got my goblet of fire replacement.

thanks

All my Blade Runner BDs are surprisingly rough. I have played the Final Cut in a PS3 in the vertical position with no ill effects...still, what is up with WB quality control these days? Great movie in any case.

Is it really that problematic? Can't you use like a nail file or something to smooth the edge if it's causing playback problems? I think I've had other discs that do not feel very smooth, but I've never noticed any playback noise or any problem.

i would not suggest using a file to smooth out the edges. if its to much a problem then take the discs back and change them out rather then risk chipping the disc with a file.

the pencil trick did not work for me for whoever asked about it.

thanks

Here are some pics of my discs. The middle disc (Theatrical) is the worst. The bottom disc (Workprint) is pretty much smooth and plays completely fine.

Dude, these pictures are as clear as mud. You haven't by any chance taken out-of-focus pictures of UFOs in the past have you?

Just kidding. You might try to set the disc along the edge of a table and (after getting the camera focused properly and the disc lit properly) take a picture holding the camera with both your hands.

Well thank you very much. In the past I've been (rarely) called a fanboy on another so-called neutral site (AVS).

And when the bull crap becomes abundant, then sometimes folks become alerted and are on the lookout for it. On this site, we seem to have had an influx of recently registered members (most recently December registrants) who come in and post FUD.

Oh my. I notice that you registered in December. Welcome to the forum. You're here just in time to discover "rough edges".

Now this is a good picture and I can see the non smooth edge on your middle disc. I'll have to check mine out closely.

Ya know, the more I read this post the more I am sorry I posted in it.
Rough edges, smooth edges, doesnt bother me at all. Only thing that I dont like is that when I play the disc it sounds like I turned on an electric sander. If my disc is rough but plays fine then hey, I could care less, but thats not the case. I dont have the receipt anymore and BB is a total pain in the ass about returning/exchanging anything without the receipt if you already have within the past year, so now its a total inconvienence. I can understand if I got one that was just defective cause sh#t happens. Problem is I am not the only one who has this problem. Where the hell is quality control?

I fell the same way. I could care less about the rough edges other than the fact that it causes the vibration sound which is completely unbearable to sit through the movie and watch with. The reason that I am not completely up in arms about it is that they play fine when I stand the PS3 up.

My question is who is to blaim? The disc manufacturer or WBHV? It is obviously a bad batch of discs.
