Default Rough edges on Blade Runner discs...

anyone else notice if the edges on the blade runner bluray disks were rough from the excess hard coat? mine are a little rough, but as long as they play fine tonight im fine with it. i was just curious if anyone else ran into this on theirs.

thanks

I haven't received my copy yet (probably tomorrow), but I had a similar problem with another disc from Warner. It wasn't rough edges, but a spot in the middle that looked like the coating hadn't been spread to that area (disc played fine)

rough edges have been around since the CD's... i usually take a No.2 pencil (the wood ones) and run the side of the pencil against the outside edge of the discs.

i have dealt with the cd issues before, but this is a little different, its like the hard coating has drips on the edges that were not trimmed properly. no big deal a i am watching it right now with no problems.

thanks

Is it possible that this will cause the disc to be off balance and cause problems down the road?

Mine should arrive somewhere in the next two hours. I'll have to check that out.

UPDATE: Yup, my final cut disc has bubbly drip marks on the edge. I did a quick test of playback and it doesn't seem to affect anything. I'll have to watch the whole thing though.

Default Blade Runner rough edges

Is there a way to exchange for non-rough BD?
It just sickens me to see that piece of "BD made of highest quality" paper together with those rough BDs....

There's no replacement plan for rough bds that I know of yet, and I don't really mind it much at all. The rough edges don't bother me, and I doubt the imbalances are gonna cause any problems for most people.

But on terms of getting what you paid for, it sucks that Warner gave us these poorly produced discs for our money.

I just have standard "non rough edge" discs for all my Blade Runner set discs. I guess Warner's target market for the rough edge discs were primarily folks who registered at Blu-ray.com in December.

I do feel left out since I have yet to see one of these legendary "rough edge" BDs.

Two of my discs (Final Cut and Theatrical/Director's Cut) have rough edges and cause vibration on my PS3 while positioned horziontal. When I stand the PS3 vertically, the vibration stops. Either way, the discs play fine. The vibration noise is just unbearable. The Workprint disc plays fine though.

I would imagine that the slot drive of the PS3 may have something to do with the vibration. A tray loading player may not even be affected by the rough edges.

From what I can recall, I have never purchased any type of disc that is as bad as these. You wouldn't notice buy just looking at them, but when you slide your finger around the edge, you can tell that they are much more rough than the average disc.

This is exactly the same problem I am having with my disc. I havent even tried them except for the "Final Cut" disc and the vibration is horrible. I thought it was just me with the lucky copy. I just turn everything up and deal with it, but at a lower volume it does suck.

They do exist, trust me. I was always one of the first to question these "questionable" problems that always seemed to crop up over at AV Arse Forum. But the first disc in my Blade Runner set does have rough edges. It played fine in my PS3 though.

Can somebody post a "close up" picture of these? I've never seen any discs with "rough edges". How would such a thing come into existance? Anyone have any ideas?

If they really do exist, I imagine that Warner would want to know about it ASAP, determine the cause and get it fixed.

I can take a picture, but it won't be until tomorrow. You might be mislead on the word "rough". The edges aren't sharp, jagged, or anything of that nature. It is more like an excess of plastic that causes a bumpy surface. When looking at the disc from the label perspective, you don't even notice it.

I just checked my set and I think I know what they're talking about. The edge of two or three of the 5 discs have a sort of ripple or slight waviness to them instead of being perfectly smooth. I guess that's what qualifies as a "rough edge". My Blade Runner: Final Cut played without a hitch though, so I don't know where the problems came from. Then again, I'm not watching it via a PS3 either.
