Help? Having Trouble with BDP-S1 and General Firmware Question

First, having some troubles with the S1, it's not outputting in anything Higher than 480p. I've plugged it into my receiver with components, because unfortunately, it doesn't Have HDMI in, just as well...my Projector can't handle 1080p, only 1080i. I switched it out with my HD Cable box too, and still go only 480p, although the Cable Box was outputting 1080i, so it has nothing to do with what cables i used, or the input i placed it in. So i wan't to know...is there something i may be doing obviously wrong? Settings or what not? I got a Demo model, so has it been set to something that i need to change? Or is it possibly Firmware that needs an update? Also, If I was to Download the Latest Firmware for it, would i actually have to go and download ALL the others before it as well?

This is why I was happy with my PS3 and my Aquos, that was a Simple HDMI connection....1080p easily
