If I'm honest, I would have actually really liked this see this remake, because it had potential to be very good. But I do think that it probably would have been better using traditional computer animation, rather thhan performance capture, so maybe it's not a great loss.

Yeah I'm really hoping Tin Tin doesn't suffer the same fate as these movies but I have faith it will do good as it's by Spielberg and is a well known and established franchise and of course it doesn't have awful character designs.

I am just worried Spielberg goes too "Hollywood" with Tintin to make it appeal to more people.

Tin Tin should be quite good for mo-cap because the animation is all based on the original illustrations and isn't going for an entierly photo-realistic approach, so I don't think it'll suffer.

I'm really looking forward to it, especially when it's been co-written by Steven Moffat.

Yeah Steven being a writer is a plus for anything and can't wait to see how it turns out.

Both Polar Express and Christmas Carol doubled their production budgets with worldwide gross. Polar Express exceeded it's budget domestically. I realize a lot of studios don't account for that, but it SHOULD be considered. Also, as both are Christmas film, they are made to be, and will be, perennial. More money will be had in broadcast and home media as people are always hungry for christmas content.

Again, I'm not defending whether or not Yellow Submarine should be remade. My favorite aspect of the project was getting the original on blu-ray. I'm just indicating that I don't think it makes business sense to cut this project based on Mars.

I still finding it amazing he pulled out of writting the other two Tin Tin movies to do Doctor Who, but that's another thread, so let's keep on topic.

Cool never knew that and would rather see more Who then him writing more Tin Tin IMO.

I have a feeling that Disney was going to cut the film no matter how Mars Needs Moms fared, because there'd has been much citisicsm about the performace-capture style of animation and Disney are looking to go in a different direction with animation, especially with John Lasseter at the helm of it all.

I have to agree with you. The movie Yellow Submarine was a product of the time, right after the summer of love - when hippies were relatively new, Hendrix had just released "Are You Experienced", 2001: A Space Odyssey was a first-run film in Cinerama theaters, and things of that sort that I still remember well. But now? It would seem to be as relevant as a flapper film from the 1920's. "Probably" a bad idea.

+1 this ex-drummer agrees 100% with that statement.

We don't need no remakes of A Hard Days Night Or Help! either.

I do agree there are valid reasons to cancel this project - I just don't think the Mars results are one of them. Of course they could be a good excuse.

I don't need any silly remakes..... I agree that the original just need to come to Blu-ray.... the audio/video would be glorious...... I can feel my jaw tightening up, and my pupils dilating just thinking about it.

I think MGM did great job on the 1999 DVD, the only gripe I have is that it's not anamorphic, but for a DVD release, it's looks damn good.
I cherish my copy.

No, it would be one of those reverential "All You Need is Love" attempts to artificially replicate Summer-of-Love psychedelia (the kind that really old corporate guys in their 50's like to be nostalgic about, like Zemeckis), like the X-Box Beatles RockBand opening, and end up being too polished, sentimental and forced-humor.
Without the rough edges the original had in 1968: When it came out, the culture shock of the original wasn't the "hippie" element, it was "Wow, it's a cartoon, but ADULTS like it too! "
Back then, in those days just before the Ralph Bakshi Revolt of '74-'81, Cartoons = Disney and Disney was the Pop-Culture Dictator, which is why the Blue Meanies just happened to resemble Evil Mickey Mouses.

(Also, I didn't just post those King Features "BeatlesToons" earlier in the thread to be cute--
Submarine originally grew out of the Al Brodax series--which is why the Beatles didn't want to be associated with the movie--but the series was finding it harder to relate the cartoon's Ed Sullivan/Hard Day's image of the characters with the growing psychedelic influences of the Revolver album.
By the time the series got to the Sgt. Pepper album, it WOULD have had to look like Yellow Submarine--As it is, the movie's "Hey Bulldog" had to be animated quickly at the last minute, and looks an awful darn lot like the average Brodax BeatleToon.)

Disney Insiders Claim 'Yellow Submarine' Sunk Before 'Mars Needs Moms' Tanked deadline reports:

Quote:
Insiders at Disney are denying a Hollywood Reporter story that a lousy opening weekend for the Robert Zemeckis-produced animated film Mars Needs Moms sank Yellow Submarine, the 3D remake of the psychedelic animated Beatles film that Zemeckis had set up to direct at the studio in August 2009. It is true that Disney won't go forward with the project, but insiders said that decision was made months ago. At that point, Zemeckis was given permission to shop the film elsewhere. This makes some sense, coming in the aftermath of Disney's announcement it would shutter ImageMovers Digital, the animation factory based in Marin County, CA. Disney announced a year ago it would shutter the 450-employee animation facility once work was completed on Mars Needs Moms. It's not immediately clear whether Zemeckis will try hard to dock Submarine elsewhere. The film was originally timed to premiere around the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. The plan was to use 16 Beatles classics including "All You Need Is Love" and "Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds." Zemeckis' infatuation with performance-capture animated technology seems to have run its course, particularly after an awful opening to the big budget Mars Needs Moms. He has lately been in the discussion for numerous live-action directing assignments. Zemeckis hasn't directed a live action film since 2000's Cast Away.

What is an ex-drummer? I've been playing since I was ten(30 years), never heard that term before.
