I know I could have put more specific options, but there is honestly a limitless number of reasons people buy what they buy. Not just the coupon comes into play, but also what a store stocked/didn't stock, etc. I could probably make a list of 100 different options but I wanted to keep it simple

My idea for the poll was to get a count of what was sold, not necessarily the reason why it sold. A lot of people are posting why they bought what they bought though, so at least there is a chance to explain after voting.

I don't know that Target was so much "allowing it" as it was that the sales associates just didn't pay attention and/or didn't care. It's not like Target advertised in their sale paper that the coupon was good for either copy. Plus, I know that numerous people were successful using it on the 2D combo at various other stores, not just Target.

I don't know how the whole coupon reimbursement system works, but I can bet that if Disney gets word of the coupons being used in ways other than what was intended, they might eventually do something about it. I'm sure the stores would crack down on accepting coupons if they stopped getting reimbursed because coupons were being applied incorrectly. By the time The Lion King comes out this fall in both 2D and 3D combos, it might not be so easy to pull the same trick if the coupon ends up being only for the 3D edition again.

I bought the 3D combo, but not just because that was what the coupon was for. I ended up buying it online and actually didn't even use the coupon (I got a good deal on eBay with the Groupon yesterday). I just usually make a habit out of buying the best of what is available at the time.

I don't have a 3DTV but I'm not going to fight 3D because it's not worth it, even if I never use the 3D disc. Unless 3D completely flops in the near future, you can pretty much guarantee that Disney is going to keep up with the 3D only coupons from here on out (for titles released with the 3D option). It's going to get harder and harder to resist getting the 3D combo packs, especially when the manufacturer themselves is pushing it so hard. If the stores catch on and stop accepting the coupons for non-3D releases (as intended), it's a wrap.
