The miniseries looked good on HDTV so shouldn´t be hard to make a good blu-ray. I also like the series more than the movie.

it's a german release but what caught my attention was that it says it includes a 3-D version of the film, is this or can this be true?

i seriously doubt this but i also know there's a process that exists that can supposedly transpose older movies into 3-D, however i don't think one of the first movies they would release doing that would be Lynch's Dune...

Well from the german feedback it seems this edition is lacking in PW but especially the sound. They recommend waiting for a better edition.

Always enjoyed the 1984 movie version but there was a few things I tought were wrong with the characters.

I enjoyed both the mini series and would love having them on blu-ray

Yep. It is a basic 3D conversion requiring a blue/red set of paper glasses. It is based on a very bad transfer where the blacks "pump" and very unclear/fuzzy...

US has the best transfer overall.

I went with the french one because my plasma is dark anyway and the picture is not filtered on the French one (rather do it with sharpness on the TV). US one is cheaper if you are in US.

Loaded it, works ok, need to change to soundtrack 3 which is DTS and turn off the subtitles. Have not watched it yet, just played the first few minutes, but the shield fight with Picard looks OK, did not look as dated as I thought it might.

I did not end up changing the sharpness as it was OK, sharpness is default 50 for HD on Panasonic 50", for DVD's I use 30, I might use 45 when I actually watch it with the brother in-law, but I only really noticed it on the start credits.

There is probably not much difference unless they remaster it by hand and replace stars and space ships. A movie is a movie, when you watch it your imagination takes over anyway, just have a beer, rofl. I hope they do a Blade Runner on it one day, despite the reviews I think Dune is one of the more worthy movies... maybe they don't have any footage to add to it.

Just bought this now that it is down to $9.99. And WOW. The transfer is fantastic. I loved the film, read the book, and subsequently hated the film... but now I've grown to love it. I think the actors were better in the miniseries, but I really enjoy a lot about the 1984 version.
