From my earlier previous post, I am at my wits end with this problem. Both Windvd and powerdvd just lock up after they initiate. Both players were working the other day and for some reason just freeze up. I did a windows restore once and had windvd and powerdvd working. Again after powering up the laptop today It is back to the same $^##@$ thing. What the hell is going on with this????????????????????. Nothing has been installed or changed other than the players updates to get it to work after the restore. It worked fine after the updates and after powering it up today, nothing!!!, locks up my system. This is a VGN-AR190G
Looking for some input on this very, very frustraiting issue. |

I have to wonder what is being done that kills off playback overnight.
Restore again is all I can suggest. I figured that it would work, something is changing during the day or when you power up the next morning. Sorry I cannot be of more help. ![]() For the record, WinDVD BD For VAIO *AND* PowerDVD Ultra 7.3.3104 work fine side by side. There is no conflict between the two - at least not here. Having the same issues as post #10 was wondering if someone can expand on this post further. I still cannot get the BD to play through the HDMI which is connected to my HDTV. Am I missing a step?
Post 10 reads Fixed it! Turns out the problem was that I had both displays (laptop + HDTV) going at the same time. HDCP no likey, thinks you're trying to make a copy. I went into NVIDIA Control Panel and changed the display configuration to Single Display (HDTV) and the movie now plays. BUT...now I have another problem with movie resolution (just posted). Hope this fix helps someone... |

Ok, I'm having BD problems on my VAIO as well...
I've got the VGC-RC310, which has dual core Pentium D 3.20 ghz processorsm 2gb RAM, GeForce 7600 GT, and the Matshita BD-MLT SW-5582. The program is WinDVD BD which came bundled with the computer. Everything is updated with drivers and what not. Hooked up via DVI to a Viewsonic VX225wmb 720P monitor. XP MCE. House of Flying Daggers, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, and Black Hawk Down all play fine. The Simpsons Movie, Live In Dublin: Bruce Springsteen With The Sessions Band both skip and thus get out of sync with the audio. These discs also don't show up in "my computer" and the BD Drive reads as a "CD-ROM" drive when they are. I've no clue what's going on, and as it is, I'm already somewhat clueless about the whole HD thing. I've downloaded the pertinent updates from Sony, but these movies still skip. Consequently, when Win DVD BD is running, it takes up 100% of my CPU load, it does this for the movies that play fine as well as those that don't. Anybody? Thanks in advance. |

I can play BD fine but the quality is not as good as my home theater style BD player, also, when I run HDMI to a 1080P TV at 1920x1080 60hz and set the graphics card accordingly (either daul display mode or single with the TV as primary) the desktop is slightly larger than the panel display by about the height of the taskbar times two on all four sides. . . I have checked on two diff tv's both new, Sony and Samsung, both 1920x1080, does NVADIA have the scaling wrong? it works fine when I selected 1366x768 for a 720P TV??? Anyway, I am mainly concerned about the video quality, I am using Power DVD ultra, so I don't think it's my player, quality is no different when I use the WIN DVD BD that came with it. . . any help would be appreciated. . . I would have started a thread but I couldn't, how long before new members can post??? thanks, Dustin

1st post so forum not letting me start new thread so attaching to this open thread
I have a new (month old) Sony Vaio VGN-AR11S with a Mashita BD-MLT UJ-210S drive. The drive plays CD's and DVD's have written to CD-R no problems. Just bought a Sony Blu-ray Disc BD-RE 25GB and Casino Royale on Blu-ray Casino royale does not play. auto detect whirs but does not give me an option to "open with" anything. "My Computer" switches the drive from DVD-RAM to CD drive and show 0 bytes Attempts to write to the BD-RE results in an error message. WIN DVD BD is pre-installed. I am thinking that some firmware or updated software is needed. Any thoughts? |

I had the identical problem with a new Sony VAIO Laptop w/ Blu-Ray. I believe the issue you're having is related to the HDCP that Vista has added to protect HD content from being copied. Essentially, you can only have one display active when using the Blu-Ray drive. The key is to have your display set so that it's using a single display and that it's the TV. This sounds like a no-brainer if you're used to varying your display settings. While troubleshooting this issue, there were many times that I had the display set to only use the TV and it still didn't work. I suspect that once I tried to play and the content was blocked, there was no undoing it. So, before you hit PLAY, make sure the TV is your only active display. Try having both the TV and laptop off, hooking them up (HDMI cable) and then turning them both on. See if your laptop automatically sets the TV as the only display. If not, go into Control Panel>Personalization>Display Settings and make the TV the "Main Monitor". Alternately, you can select Advanced Settings button from within Display Settings and go to the NVIDIA Control Panel where there are more features for setting display preferences. I apologize for the less than specific instructions...as I said, I had to finagle the thing a bit.

Hi all, first post. Can you help?
I am attempting to get my Blue ray DVDS to work on my VAIO desktop.I have encountered one problem after another. I have an RC204 with an NVida 7600. From reading your posts this would seem sufficent to play the blueray smoothly. After failing miserably with WINDVD BD. The latest VAIO update has stopped it working all together and still awaiting support to return my call. I purchased PowerDVD Ultra. Which has worked straight away. The blueray plays in 720p but it seems to go pixelated and invert colours when there is alot happening on screen. It also pauses, judders and jolts every few seconds making it unwatchable. I assume i have my display/graphics cards settings incorrect. I have a Sony Bravia 32"U. I am using a HDMI cable. If i change the settings to 1080i in windows and start the blueray. I recieve a blue screen error immidatley. Can anyone help? |
