Default Is this a proper rls of Blade?

The Aspect Ratio for this rls is 2:39:1. The original rls from Alliance was 1:78:1 which is wrong and stretched the picture out.

A lot of the time they just list the original aspect ratio of the film in these listings, and it's not corrected if the BR does not have that ratio until later. The listing just states what the original aspect ratio is and not what it is on that release. I'd wait and see.

It's most likely the same disc as before that's cropped to 1.78 from 2.39. On the original Alliance release, I'd give the video a 3/5. I think it's a good transfer, but the only thing keeping it a 5/5 is the fact that it's cropped from scope to matted.

The anamorphic standard was changed to 2.39 in 1971

1971-1993 0.700" x 0.838" 2.39
1993-2011 0.690" x 0.825" 2.39
(2X anamorphic lens)

Trinity OAR is 2.39 too

The actual aspect ratio of the Steelbook disc is probably the same as the old one:

Funny Ha ha dude. I don't trust anything from alliance these days. freddy vs jason, blade 2 and 3 are the only proper titles.

Here are the aspect ratios:
  • Blade: DVD (2.35:1) vs. Blu-Ray Alliance (1.78:1)
  • Blade II: DVD (1.85:1) vs. Blu-Ray Alliance (1.78:1)
  • Blade Trinity: DVD (2.35:1) vs. Blu-Ray Alliance (2.39:1) [Corrected my Mistake]

Note that Blade Trinity is supposed to be 2.35:1, not 1.85:1 as stated on this thread.

So Blade II is the only one that would make sense to purchase from Alliance.

Just to clear up some confusion about Blade:Trinity, the Alliance Blu is indeed 2.39:1. The packaging says 1.78:1 but the actual film on the disc is correct. I just popped it back in to confirm. Only the original Blade is cropped, the other 2 are just fine.

which is mind boggling as to why blade 2 and 3 are proper and 1 isn't.

Blade Trinity Alliance is a very good disc. Blade 1 is not good, not only the AR problem, but video quality and audio quality is far from good enough I think.

You can safely buy 2 and 3. AQ on Blade 2 is awesome!

Sorry guys, I've made a mistake for Blade Trinity. Corrected in my original post.
The cover mistake confused me!

But, even with some flaws, it was rather enjoyable to see them in Hi-Def.

Even Blade with a modified aspect ratio looked great... But I hope a USA version will come soon.

It's all Warner now. They have been slow to release New Line catalog titles since they bought them out a few years ago.

I actually bought all 3 of these on Blu from FYE used and never realized that they were not the correct releases! The aspect ratio in the first one bothers me a bit but i'll live for now. Actually I am curious as to how I can add these three movies to my blu-ray.com collection since they arent searchable it seems..

thx

Ant

Edit: I figured out how to add it..

There was a thing floating around the net the other day indicating that Warner was licensing out all the newline titles from the mid 90s-2004 to EchoBridge, that hadnt been released on BD by wb yet, not sure if theres any truth there, hope not or we will be getting some pretty crappy BDs of great new line films in the near future
