I really liked the first half of the movie. Then once he fell into his depressed stupor, it got old quick. I just kept thinking, "Get off your butt and do something." And, no, I'm not one of the kiddies. Apparently the person who loaned it to me didn't care for it either (and she's less a kiddie than me) since she didn't want it back. I passed it off to someone else.

Great movie, I bought this blind based on a few reviews.

I got a question though........

[Show spoiler]Who's door is Miles knocking on at the very end of the movie and what was it about? I guess I just did not get it. Great movie though!

[Show spoiler]He's knocking on Maya's door since she presumably forgave him and would see him again. The movie started with his door getting knocked on and ended with him knocking on a door. I suppose you could see it as he's out of his slump and taking initiative.

I love Sideways but I can't bring myself to order the Blu-ray.
The blu-ray.com screenshots look pretty much like the dvd (ok...there's a slight improvement).
Does anyone know if there's a better transfer from another country?

I got Sideways early over the weekend and watched it last night. Noticeable improvement in the detail and color department over the dvd. It won't blow you away, but I was pretty impressed.

[Show spoiler]I interpreted it to mean he was willing to take a chance on something new,and I think it was one of the best endings in recent history.It was brilliant that we saw him walk up to the door and knock,and cut it there.

Love the movie,but it can be hard viewing sometimes.

One of the rare positive reviews regarding the pq of Sideways:

VIDEO QUALITY: 4.5/5 This Blu-ray disc offers a large improvement over the DVD in terms of rendering finer details, grain, and the softer photography. This BD accurately exhibits the slightly 1970s look as intended by the director. The warm sunsets over the Californian terrain are strong in their appearance and the film frequently has a look of dusk. Film grain can be seen throughout these long shots, adding to the warm and cozy feeling. Flesh tones sometimes take on the warmth of the dry environment, while all other colours seem to keep an accurate hue. The darkest blacks can appear a bit grey, such as in Chapter 27 when Miles and Jack go to the house at 6am to fetch the wallet. Any edge outlining that appeared on the DVD is absent on this BD. This BD of Sideways appears to be faithful to the film and 1.85:1 aspect ratio without any unwanted artefacts.

Ok....I just compared a Blu-ray screenshot from the dvdbeaver.com
review with my dvd. There is quite an improvement I would say.

I've just received the Blu-ray and checked out a couple of scenes.
If you're a fan of the movie I would say that it's definitely worth upgrading.

Yep, an improvement, but not the usual jump in resolution we see from DVD to Blu-ray. I think the problem is that the film looks as if it was shot on 16mm (even though on IMDB it lists the film negative as 35mm). I remember from watching it in the theaters that the quality was lacking.

Just saw Sideways on Blu; it was my first time re-watching this since seeing it in the theater 10 years go. Excellent film, but disappointing Blu transfer. As has been said on this thread, it was better than the DVD (never seen the DVD, just going by the screen-shots here), but not of the Blu quality we've come to expect.
