thanks
I can't speak for wmv (though it's likely related), but the avi container format has had a 2 GB size limit since it was created, due to the way the Video for Windows architecture works. The only reason there are larger files now is it's possible with newer software to make segmented avi's, but apparently the PS3 hasn't implemented that yet. Here's one link with some info: http://neuron2.net/LVG/filesize.html

And just out of curiosity, does every missing/broken feature on the PS3 have to be about piracy? It used to be we didn't have network streaming due to movie piracy fears, then we didn't have divx support due to piracy fears, now we can't have 2 GB+ movie files due to HD movie piracy. I'm beginning to think we're more paranoid that Sony is (well, the SCE division anyway, heh).

Another thing, according to someone on neogaf, the Divx people said that the PS3 was going to continue to get improved Divx support in future firmware updates until it had all the features of a certified player. This strongly implies support for larger HD files.

The latest update actually does this for you, but it's in the improper underhand fashion. Hopefully the next update will fix this.

1. In Game XBM

2. Messaging regardless if your friend is in the same game or not. Having to quit games to check messages is totally inexcusable for this kind of hardware.

3. DTS-HD MA decoding

4. Force devs to enable "open mic" on there team based games. Pushing a button to talk on Warhawk is so freaking lame.

Perhaps not.

Don't forget FAT32 only supports up to 2GB files.
PS3 does not support NTFS.

I just got my PS3 and downloaded the v2.1 update.

Is there anything else I need to do to set up my PS3 for playing blurays?

it's a Sharp LC-26SH10U (or LC-32SH10U, they're both on the cover of the manual). It's a 26" 720p/1080i.
