Bonds curse? I always considered it the Sid Bream curse. It was his blazing speed that put the Braves over the top in 1992. Seems like only yesterday he was jogging around the bases to beat the weak throw home. Hard to believe that was 19 years ago. In any case my guess if Pittsburgh finishes over .500 but does not win the Central. At least they're finally building something though. Im curious to how the Braves success would/could have changed had they signed Bonds instead of Maddux after the 1992 season. It appears though even with only 1 WS title, they made the right choice.

I really think Bonds would have been for the worse. Maddux was clearly the right call IMO. His numbers in the early to mid-90's were some of the most dominant for any starter in MLB history. He'd literally throw complete game shutouts or 1-run games in <90 pitches at great frequency.

Also, lets not forget who proably would have signed Maddux if Atlanta had not - the Yankees. I'm fairly certain they outbid us on Maddux but he signed in Atlanta for a bit less money. Add Maddux to those Yankee teams and they probably would have won even more titles in the mid-late 90's.

Yeah that would have been scary had Maddux gone to the Yankees...I think the Braves made both Bonds and Maddux offers at the same time and basically were waiting on who would say yes first. But at the sametime, Bonds in left field would have been a slight improvement over Ron Gant

ARLINGTON, Texas -- The Rangers will raise the height of the front row rails at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington to 42 inches, an increase of as much as 12 inches in certain areas of the park, as part of new safety initiatives at the facility following the death of fan Shannon Stone.

Stone, a 39-year-old firefighter from Brownwood, fell over the railing in left-center as he attempted to catch a ball thrown by outfielder Josh Hamilton. The drop was about 20 feet and Stone died from injuries sustained in the fall.

The rails located at the bottom of the aisles in much of the park are already at 42 inches. But the rails in front of some seats in the park drop to 34 or 30 inches so fans' views are not obstructed. Now, all of those rails will go to 42 inches. The rail that Stone fell over was 34 inches.

Darth Anakin, I can remember a 20-inning affair between the Astros and the Braves in the playoffs about 6-7 years ago. That might be the longest playoff game, but there have probably been longer games in the regular season.

12 in a row. And we shut them out. The Angels. They're no chumps. And mlb.com says 12 in a row is the longest winning streak in the Major's since '06.

There was a 26-inning game between the Brooklyn Dodgers and the Boston Braves in 1920. More modern would be two 25-inning games in 1974 and 1984 between St.Louis/NYM and Milwaukee/Chicago, respectively. Time wise that 1984 game is the longest at 8 hours and 6 mins.

The longest professional baseball games was played between the Pawtucket Red Sox and the Rochester Red Wings. It was 33 Innings long and lasted nearly 8 1/2 hours. The game started on April 18th at 8:25pm and ended June 23rd(game was suspended after 32 hours and resumed the next time the Red Wings visted Pawtucket).

Quite a pitching duel with Lincecum vs Kershaw today, but as usual Kershaw shuts the Giants down again beating us 1-0 giving up only 3 hits , i swear we cant beat him if were spotted a 5 run lead.... ... Glad to be back in town and can finally watch some baseball, no offense glass but all they show up in Vancouver, Canada is Blue Jays and nothing but the Blue Jays.. I cant take anymore lol

Sorry but the Phillies just dont scare me, im more worried about the Braves than the Phils, are pitching staff is just as good as the Phils and they can be beaten, but our offense sucks so i just dont see us being much of a threat in the playoffs this year...

How about Ryan Vogelsong this year, gotta give him some major props, and should probably win comeback player of the year award, @ 7-1 in 15 starts and leads the NL in ERA at 2.02

According to ESPN, the Yankees have been scouting Ubaldo Jimenez. If this is true, and the Yankees are going to go after him, they have the prospects to make it happen.

That would be a HUGE deal for the Yanks, they need to upgrade their pitching staff if they want to go anywhere in the playoffs this year...

Yeah, but I pretty much gave up on this team awhile ago. So it's individual performances like Kershaw today that bring a smile to me.

Cool stat here, according to Joe Block of ABC, Kershaw, he has a 1.41 ERA against the Giants for his career which makes that an MLB record. Unreal.
