We are 100% open to criticism and suggestions, just tell us what's wrong and we'll fix it

Our plan has always been to turn the site into a fully featured Web 2.0 site where the user has a lot to say about the content and where all settings are highly customizable.

No it doesn't.

People pay for memberships for all sorts of groups, all the time.

hes making a list with all our names we'll be gone tomorrow ...

lol only thing I'd recommend is if there is a way to keep the new guys/girls on the newbie section for awhile but restrict them from posting in the other parts that might be good a big post it at the top for them to read about how the site works and the benefits of posting on old topics... I've already in the past 10 found 2 threads that I know we already have keep up the good work

This is not what we are here for nor what we desire.. patience is a vertue or so they say. This site should be about the technology, ever changing, and not the war - soon to be over

Here is where the problem lies. I am a new member - but longtime lurker. These "Noobies" are treated as a problem. By all appearances, many people like to lash out at the noobies. I've had someone be flat out nasty with me, and I've seen others being accused of trolls, because of the low post count, blah blah blah. (Yes, there have been some trolls, but you get those everywhere.)

One thing to remember: If not for these "Noobies", Blu-Ray would NOT be in the position they are in right now. We "Noobies" are the ones who bought into Blu-Ray this holiday season, thus turning the tide.

I would think that this site would welcome these new folks, for without US, HD-DVD would be the winner right now. But again, that's just me.

I dont think anyone hates you or wants to its just for example today I've responded to at least 5 threads that have already been covered, is it really any longer stint members fault for being a bit eirked when hes said the black bars are their to stay 30 times I bet 100% that if newer users were restricted for awhile that wouldnt happen as much btw its all good

I for one have always enjoyed this site, and have always used it for a source of useful information. Even when the format war is over, this still can be, no should be, a great place to come for information on the latest BD developments and technology. Obviously some things will change, but this is the nature of websites, and technology as it changes and matures. This site will only grow in members and have more new members as Blu-ray takes off, so we will have to learn to adapt to that. I am proud to be a member of the community. I do agree with the constant multiple threads and post-whoring as being an issue, and the misuse of the Insiders thread, but these things can be worked on and fixed. Some of this is also just the nature of forums, and the nature of the internet.
To those who want to leave, fair sailing!

I plan on being here a long time!

Another thing that could be helpful is if the FAQ, which I just checked out and looks great, is automatically sent or hyperlinked to any new user who signs up for the forum.

When an organization changes from free to fee, they will most likely lose good memebers, as well as deter new members from joining. Don't get me wrong, I know that many people will pay, but I am just stating the facts.

blu-ray.com is the premier format neutral forum for optical HDM in the known universe. I expect it to only get better.

I dig my blu-ray.com family.

I Agree.

Pretty much a post that contains no substance or adds anything to the active conversation taking place in the thread at the time. Have not see many post *****s here actually, which is a breath of fresh air from most other sites.

Web 2.0 FTW!!!

This site is a perfect example of Web 2.0, except the logo isn't reflected.

In my opinion, as we move forward on this site, there are three things, I believe, are important for all of us here to embrace or at least think about.

There will be people coming here who will certainly be uninformed, uneducated about what 'we' know so much about, and we may see their questions as so fundimental, that to us they appear stupid. We need to realize that for everything there is a beginning, and many will start here. We will need to exercize restraint, patience, and humility. The last being the hardest, that though we were too once the uninformed, that our emassing of knowledge does not give us liberty to ridicule or put down the novice. Simply meet them at 'where they are' and bring them forward without destroying their zeal along the way. So, for what it's worth, that's my two cents! [Jim]

I first came here because I had purchased a PS3 (basically because I had a PS1 and a PS2 before that) but I was REALLY uninformed about the formats and I wanted to learn. I stumbled here completely by accident.

I am completely guilty of posting flippantly (as, I think, everyone is prone to do from time to time) but I like to think that as I have learned and progressed (I now own another HDTV and another SA Blu-Ray player) I have contributed to the overall conversation here in some positive (and negative) ways.

I try to remind myself that I was once almost completely ignorant (some would argue I still am!) in regards to Blu-Ray and the HDM market in general. I think that some patience and understanding can go a LOOOONG way here and now.

Also, this site is almost like the ambassador to the blu-ray community. How we respond to the influx of membership is going to have a lot to do with first impressions that a lot of folks may have to the HDM market in general (both as new members and lurkers).

This is going to sound cheesy but it's still true and I don't care if it IS cheesy. Remember the "golden rule" (paraphrased): "Treat others as you would like to be treated." (I know I can use a reminder of that myself quite often).

Very nice post. I think quite a few people need to take a look at that rule from time to time and remind themselves of what it means.
