That's because he always intended Vader to swear, but didn't see how to do it. Then Rick McCallum reminded him that ROTS is rated PG-13, thus giving Lucas the means to more fully realize his true vision.

They didn't have the technology back then.

Right. And for the 52nd Anniversary of Star Wars, Lucas is actually going to let Quentin Tarantino have a go at the Saga. There will be more frequent beheadings, buckets o'blood a-plenty, and the Jedi and Sith will actually join forces to wipe out the Gunguns.

Actually there is official stuff there. As it's based on what Lucas has said about Ghost Anakin.

Your post makes leaps and draws conclusions from things Lucas said on a commentary. You've written an essay that may or may not be how the Maker sees it. Again, no offense, but putting in a vague recollection or two about what Lucas said on a commentary does not validate your post.

Because then they'd have to design a young Yoda. You guys think of this stuff in too much of a nerdy Star Wars geek kind of way. Lucas wanted to put a face that the audience actually recognizes on the central character of his saga at the end (as opposed to some old guy they only saw 2 minutes before with a substantially-different appearance) and any explanation of that after the fact only exists to support that decision.

Star Wars nerds will debate that for years but Lucas got what he wanted: everyone watching the saga will immediately recognize Yoda, Obi-Wan and Anakin at the end.

As opposed to what? The confusion that reigned when Sebastian Shaw appeared?

The thing with the ghosts is Luke with Seb Shaw gets to see what his father may have become, a Jedi Master alongside Yoda and Obi-Wan and not the whining douchebag he was when he turned to the Darkside in his twenties. He progressed both physically and emotionally. He would have his physical self restored: the Force works in mysterious ways....

I say return Seb Shaw back to be the ghost (or at least James Earl Jones: they can cut him out of Conan the Barbarian). They could also return Yoda into his true tad-pole form....

Amazon clip.

There was a row of first graders at the 1997 special edition of JEDI who had no problem recognizing Anakin, have star wars fans gotten that much dumber since then?

Yes, even though they are available seperately. They still have the attached episode numbers.

I think there probably has been confusion over the years. Not only does everyone here know it's Anakin we also know the actor's name. I don't find it the least bit difficult picturing kids coming out of the theater in '83 asking who that old guy was.

Also, love or hate the prequels, they're out there and people are watching them. I can buy that McGregor and Guinness are playing the same character but I see no Christiansen in Shaw or vice-versa.

Furthermore, the age/timeline simply doesn't add up. It never has since the PT came out. Anakin should be like 40 or 45. An Episode III with a middle-aged Anakin and Obi-Wan Since woulda worked but that's not what we got. Shaw looks noticeably older than Anakin's age plus Luke's. Since '05 I've always thought the rapid Dark Side-fueled aging/deformity of Palpatine has been Lucas's attempt at justifying Shaw's age in the unmasking scene. They coulda left Palpatine as-is as far as his Sideous appearance goes and nobody would have questioned it.

Criticize Lucas all you want for retrofitting the OT to fit the PT but there are actual logistical reasons behind the Hayden ghost that actually make sense from a continuity/storytelling standpoint.

Personally if I were a devotee of the Force I'd be pissed that his evil deeds were rewarded by perpetual youth but hey, maybe Ben and Yoda dig being old.

Just as I thought, discussion about Anakin's ghost again? Same arguments again? I love this thread.

Could not agree more. Ghost Anakin should be Jake or Sebastian, but not Hayden. But why would a Jedi be so vein as to care about going back to a youthful appearance. Anakin realized he was still good when he threw The Emperor down the shaft Maybe they should throw in a new SE line from Anakin to Luke,

'oh and by they way, when you see me as a ghost I'll look a lot younger. So just smile and wave like you know me. Wouldn't want Obi or Yoda to think you don't know your old man now.... gasp... uhhhh'

it's nice in theory. Since aging is a sign of decay and eventual death, I think it makes sense for spirits in the afterlife to be eternally youthful, but Yoda and Obi should've been the same...
