We will get them when he needs some more cash flow. Sorry to be cynical but he will end up releasing them probably as a set all by themselves and people will flock for them. He knows this.

This is why I think the argument that he'll release them when he needs cash is stupid. That cat's not hurting from money.

Did we forget that he made billions off the Prequels....
He certainly isn't (and never will be) hurting on money that is true. However, he has released the UOT on EVERY viable home video format. To say "Its never coming!" is ignoring previous efforts and history (even though the last effort was so-so, even for the AOT and TPM).

What everyone seems to be ignoring is George is concerned about cost at this time. Like any good businessman he has money he has put into certain projects. The Clone Wars, 3D releases, numerous video games, the current blu ray releases, Red Tails, Indiana Jones, 3D blu rays, so on and so forth, these things cost money. Putting the original trilogy remastering project on the front burner is not a priority at this time as all the projects I just listed are more immediate. Eventaully, they will get there. Just not right now.

So, let's all stop asking when its coming out and lets also cut the "Its never coming!" stuff as it is just as much an uneducated statement. Lets try and keep the conversation on what we are going to have in less than a month!

Now, back to the blu rays, who here is psyched like I am to rewatch TPM? While it isn't my favorite film in the series, it certainly seems TPM has profited a great deal from the work put into the current blu rays! It will be like watching it for the first time again. Soooo fn excited!

Except that it doesn't make sense. Why isn't it young Obi-Wan as well. Since the force seems so superficial.

There's also the stupid argument that Anakin Skywalker 'died' when he became Darth Vader but that too doesn't make sense. If there's no more Skywalker in Vader then Luke gets fried extra crispy by the Emperor. It's, to me, the most stupid change Lucas made to the OT. I don't even care that he pussied out of Han shooting first all that much or that the digital Jabba in ANH looks like a cheap CGI (which he probably worked on some more for the blu-rays). But Hayden Christensen's mug at the end of RotJ reminds me of the bad casting choice he was.

Exactly. It's just odd. It's like Lucas wanted to do something, damned if it made sense or not. I guess he could've swapped Hayden for Jake Lloyd, too.

The other thing is.... why wouldn't Luke look over and see Hayden Christensen and think "Who the hell is THAT?" He had no idea what his father looked like when he was younger! Luke was spared having to sit through the prequels.

Lucas needs money in the same way that Bill Gates is short of funds! SW fans had the original trilogy released on dvd with stereo sound, in widescreen but no-o-o they weren't happy with that release, they want the best of both worlds with the trilogy digitally remastered to the Nth degree but without any alterations so the visual effects look as crappy as people remember them, including the untra-thick matte lines around the Rancor etc.

The Star Wars films are going to look incredible on blu ray. I'm willing to forgive the occasional gaff (Ronto/biker gag) for this to happen. Bring 'em on!

The disrespect for the art of film and film history in this thread is pretty depressing. I guess every film ever made needs to be updated every ten years to add new elements so they can be considered watchable to shallow, ignorant, video-game addicted plebes. Film grain in crossfades and other opticals? Matte lines? THE HORROR!!!

Uh, no.... that's because you screwed around with the color timing, crushed the blacks, and turned up the contrast. Even the 1997 Special Edition releases didn't look this way! Film is a far more detailed storage medium than a 1080p Blu-ray, and color space differences have nothing to do with it either. They just won't admit that they screwed up, just like how the reverse rear channels in ANH were somehow intentional.
But the all important 1977 release prints(one or more of which , the Library of Congress have in their possession) are most likely inferior to Blu ray, digital 2K 0r 4k.

If rescanned with the lastest tech, the original prints would look pretty damn great...

The point is: It's generally possible to give an old film a stunning Blu-ray presentation, but 'they' are not always willing to pony up the cash to do it right. "Just slap some DNR on that old 2k file made for HDTV broadcasts and unload it onto the viewer."
The 1999 master has little to do with Alien. There was a complete rescan done in 4K done right before the release on bluray done by Lowry digital in 2009 or 2010. When an original camera negative is rescanned the color timing will have to be completely redone so the 99 master has nothing to do with the color changes you saw. For the money Lucas will make on these blurays, 3 of them with extremely outdated masters, rescanning episodes 4-6 and doing 4K masters would cost in the range of realistically $1 million for a 1/2 way decent remastering to 3 million for a top notch job. Let's put this in perspective in 2004 the original trilogy dvd's made $100 million on the first day of sales worldwide. http://money.cnn.com/2004/09/23/news...wars/index.htm

YES!!!! Screw the artistic puppet work by Frank Oz in the OT! I can't wait this should be great! Great news on Greedo still shooting first!

This will be a day long remembered! With this release we have seen the end of the UOT and will soon see the end of our cultural heritage. I am looking forward to September 12th!

Dude, it's just a movie (ok, movies). Let's have some perspective here. People decrying the "end of our cultural heritage" and hating their young nieces for having birthdays in the name of Star Wars make this entire thread fail.

I am pretty sure deductive reasoning Luke would figure out who the younger cat was pretty quickly, as well, he only really hears about 3 Jedi throughout the entire series: His father, Obi Wan, and Yoda.

However, I tend to like the original ending of Jedi a bit more as I feel its more meaningful (to me). I like the idea of Anakin appearing as an older wiser man whom has learned from his mistakes, redeemed himself and fuflilled his destiny of restoring balance to the force. It is quite poetic. However, I get the HC ending too, as we like to remember people when they were their best and fits with the line: "A young Jedi, by name of Darth Vader, betrayed and murdered your father." Both endings work. Its just personal preference that divides audiences.

But that is really off topic! I am sooo amped to see the deleted scenes! I really really want to see the 'Fate of General Veers' so badly! I NEVER knew they actaully filmed it!

Obi-Wan told Luke who his father was and that he was a hero of the Clone Wars. There is 3 years set between ANH and ESB. You don't think he ONCE said hmm I am going to look up a jedi named skywalker who was a general in the war???

The idea that he couldn't find a picture of his father when he knew who his father was and his father was extremely famous and had PLENTY of time in the OT to do so is absurd. He was obsessed with finding information about his father.
