The amount of news articles written about this over the past few days makes you think that there would be something major going on, but there doesn't appear to be much substance behind this announcement. The article describes this news as a "big win" for HD-DVD, but I fail to see what they're actually referring to. Microsoft basically said that they will assist Toshiba with some of the software development for Toshiba HD-DVD players, nothing else.

This is nothing more than another PR stunt, kind of like when Microsoft announced that Longhorn would support HD-DVD (duh, they will support all formats that are commonly used including Blu-ray).
