If the cold is the problem, you can always put them in the microwave for a few minutes before playing them. DO NOT boil them though (that's an HD DVD combo approved and ant recommended procedure for that format only).

So you can see how temp can easily effect it.

Even with the hard coating a little bit of finger print grease could make a disc unreadable until you clean it off. Just an example of how sensitive the laser is.

I hope its just a temp issue.
ive gotten melted chocolate icecream on my discs before (dont ask) and they played fine, when I pulled the disc out after finishing it looked super dirty, so I just cleaned it and put it back.

Was it a porn disc?

LOL. I could only imagine a 30 stack of discs in a microwave.... He'd need to rebuy all his discs -- and possibly another microwave.

Besides, two minutes of entirely toxic chemicals being microwaved would be a "Bad Thing (tm)"

To the Original poster,...

I believe you. In fact,.. I think this may be part of a much larger problem. More information is needed. Can you send the discs to me for further investigation?

I used to have this problem with my car cd player. I'd keep CDs in the car, and in the winter, they would refuse to play when they were cold. Probably something to do with the laser or possibly even clouding.

I'd advise to keep your media in a more moderate temperature. Also see how they play after leaving them in the heated part of the house for a day.

He's no troll.

He's a long-time user of GameFaqs with the handle MrXGamer.

He posted this problem in the PS3 forum and we referred him to here.

His post:

I don't think this is an "OMG Blu-ray fails bad quality discs."

This is "I somehow messed my discs up - any ideas."

When I lived in Calgary, in the winter the CD player in my truck wouldn't work until the temp inside was above -30 (I don't know the actual temp, but when it was too f'n cold, it wouldn't play.). The CD's were all foggy and probably had a layer of frost on them.

The basement stays very cold, could that be the reason? If so, what a terrible disc. I have lost so much money. WTF.

My DVDs are still fine.
These discs were not near any source of heat or radiator.

I really hope there's a solution for this, I have 30+ discs. I'd hate to lose so much money.

Registered here to ask this question.. can someone help me out?!

according on my personal experience should'nt happen this. I have a movie theatre in a once old garage under the house. i store there my stuff as well.
Temperature is around 17.0°C (Celsius) 62.6 (Fahrenheit) with humidity between 60 and 70%.
never had any problem

yeah I heard of someone having their PS3 stop reading discs..

you never stated what you are watching your movies on in your original post...

it's either..

a)your blu-rays are actually internally damaged
b)your PS3/BD player has crapped out and stopped reading discs
c)both
d)you're a Troll

I just can't seem to figure this one out..

I'm not sure he's real or not, but I have had some netflix/blockbuster discs that came with what looked like internal scratches/bends. My PS3 couldn't play through it.

I just got Beerfest from Netflix and it had two cracks right on the edge of the disc and it still worked..

I shouldn't have been so mean in my last post.

Hey!!! Maybe you have disc rot...any little dots on the discs?

Try another BD player. Don't freak out. Yesterday it snowed in Atlanta and it was cold as F***. I tried playing Uncharted and the game refused to load. Today morning, I put it back in and it played perfectly. I think it has to do with the cold/change in temperature.

It has to be the player, the probability of all the discs going bad is so low that you have a better chance of winning the lottery.
