Well...grudge match coming Thursday night...the game numbers from game 1 (2) from this matchup were skewed....it was much closer game if not for the grand slam.... so i expect another great game

That would be crazy if they blow game 5 at home with Nova after winning game 4 on the road with Burnett. Not likely, but then again Burnett winning game 4 wasn't likely either.

Nothing is guaranteed because Girardi will over manage again and pull Nova after six innings no matter what.

They have their best guy Halladay for Game 5 in Philly. But St. Louis has a solid pitcher in Carpenter starting. Philly is likely to win it but we can hope. Sadly the Cards should have won Game 1 and we wouldn't even be here.

You're absolutely right. They should have won game 3 as well, this series should already be over. You can't give away games to a team as talented as Philadelphia.

He's not rooting for the Phillies. He's just saying that the Phillies and Yankees are from the biggest TV markets remaining and have the largest fan bases and if they are eliminated the ratings for the subsequent rounds will be much lower than if they remain.

White Sox name Robin Ventura manager

The Chicago White Sox hired former Sox third baseman Robin Ventura as manager on Thursday, the team announced.

When I met with the media as our season ended, I identified one person at the very top of my managerial list," general manager Ken Williams said in a statement. "I wanted someone who met very specific criteria centered around his leadership abilities. Robin Ventura was that man. His baseball knowledge and expertise, his professionalism, his familiarity with the White Sox and Chicago and his outstanding character make him absolutely the right person to lead our clubhouse and this organization into the seasons ahead."

Ventura replaces Ozzie Guillen, who left the Sox for the Florida Marlins.

Some Fuzzy Numbers for you Tigers and Yankees fans In the Playoffs...

Although it has no predictive value for tonight's game, I was curious about how past Yankees teams have fared when facing postseason elimination.

1) In 24 games wherein only the Yankees faced elimination, they went 13-11 overall, 5-5 this century.

Record in series that featured such a Yanks-only elimination game:
4-17 overall, 1-6 this century ... 0-4 in the A-Rod Era.
Last comeback series win: 2001 ALDS.
In 9 of the 20 series, they came back to tie the series; they went 4-5 in those sudden-death games.

2) The Yankees have gone 12-10 overall in sudden-death games (I'm counting the '78 playoff with Boston, although it's officially a regular-season game).

In 13 series that reached sudden-death without the Yankees previously facing elimination,
they went 8-5.

3) In the championship years of 1996, 1998-2000 and 2009, the Yankees faced elimination only once, in game of the 2000 ALDS. Their last title while facing elimination in the World Series was in 1962.
