This was definitely my favorite Summer film and I will be buying day 1. Nice to see some actual trailers included.

I hope the original ending is included. Here is the description I found:

[Show spoiler]Rise of the Planet of the Apes ends with James Franco and Caesar having one last emotional moment (“Caesar home,” the ape croaks before disappearing into the trees with his buddies) but that wasn’t always going to be the finale. That was a last minute addition, as the original ending had Franco’s character dying.

At the hands of humans, no less. The original ending had Franco’s character being shot to death by armed humans who have chased the apes into the forest. The ape horde descends on the people and tears them to pieces, a reversal of the opening scene where Bright Eyes is captured in the jungle. This isn’t the only change from an early version of the script – originally Rocket Koba and Caesar had a big brawl at the end as well. In fact lots of things changed lots of times over the course of the script’s development.

Everybody hurried back to set this summer, just a month before release, to reshoot the ending. Considering the work required to animate those apes, that was a pretty big deal (and part of why I don’t believe the final budget numbers on the movie).

It’s unclear why Fox changed the ending, but apparently the original finale will be available on the home video release.

Not true. I have quite of few from Fox. Even if one of them (X-Men First Class) is an exclusive.

It says in the announcement that it will come with a digital copy -- let's just hope they haven't jumped aboard the Ultraviolet DC yet.

We get their triple plays over here in the UK. But I do love that cover. Nice and simply.

Now that I think of it, Black Swan was also a combo pack, although exclusive to Target. Maybe Target will get another combo pack exclusive with this release.

Yeah, they always release BD/DC combo packs. It seems lately, Target has been getting all the exclusive Fox BD/DVD/DC combo packs. But I do have some non-exclusive combos; Percy Jackson, Fantastic Mr. Fox, to name a couple.

What I want to know is if we will ever see the deleted storyline from the film.

SPOILERS

[Show spoiler]In the trailer, Caesar appears to rescue his "girlfriend" from the lab. If you watch the movie enough, you can see where they might have removed her from the plot. Caesar befriended her at the primate refuge and then she was taken back to the lab. After Caesar led his revolt, he spots her empty cage and realizes that he must go to the lab to rescue her. Thus, it makes his revolution more of a side-effect of trying to save his lady chimp. Very Skywalker of you, Caesar

I don't think the alternate plot is nearly as effective as the one in the film, but I would still be interested in seeing it.

Did the official announcement mention the alternate ending with Franco? I read about it on a previous site and was looking forward to checking it out.

Along with the info posted above from Amazon, here is the info posted on DVDactive. It mentions it's a BD/DVD but it doesn't clearly state if the DVD is a film or a digital copy. Fox still releases their digital copies on DVD's right?

As long as they price it competitively with the regular release, then

It's at $24.96 right now.

I'd guess it'll be releasing at that...but I'll hope for $22.96

That's the version I'll be buying now that I know about it

Given that there is still a month and a half until the release and it will still be in the holiday shopping window, I would expect it to drop in price. I have a feeling this movie will be one of the ones that gets priced really nicely like some do during that time every year.

Get your own smiley...

I'm really tempted to blind buy this, since almost everyone has been giving it positive reviews. If I do decide to get it, I think I'll get the Wal-mart version, I think the cover looks better.
