I respect his accomplishments, but not his style. He is an alltime manager but I don't have to like it. I am happy for Mark McGwire who's an elite hitting coach and for showing that you do have to be pretty damn good in the first place for steroids to help you. It wasn't all juice and mirrors.

Now the Giants need to sign Bonds as htting coach and they'll be unstoppable.

Ah hell yea, I respect your opinion......mine just differs.....

I agree with your signature line, Larry Walker for the HOF......he played for the Cards too, and brought a lot to the team....great player!

For Walker's two seasons in St-Louis I wouldn't have cared even if Bill James himself was the coach. I wanted to see him show yet again that no it wasn't Coors that made him amazing. He was a beast in the 2004 World Series (heck all 2004 postseason for that matter).

I really hope this World Series didn't break any of these players.

Some of the ESPN reporters said after the game that they really appeared down, and not just in a "Damn, we just lost" kind of way but in that "Why bother even trying" kind of way.

Wonder why they'd feel that way? In the games they won, they pretty much dominated the Cards, I think they only scored what 3 runs in those three games? Excellent defense!

Is there any rumors who may take over as Manager? I really hope its not Oquendo. He has been with Tony for so long, I would be afraid that it he would turn into Tony 2.0.

I would actually prefer getting someone outside of the organization.

EDIT: Deleted my first half of my post.

The Dan Patrick Show had someone who covers the Cardinals for Fox Sports Midwest on this morning and he thought Terry Francona was a possibility. He also thought that Rays manager Joe Maddon could be a candidate. Maddon was a Cardinals fan growing up and only has a year left on his contract so it's possible the Rays would let him leave in exchange for some prospects.

Braves trade Derek Lowe to Indians

Quote:
The Atlanta Braves have traded Derek Lowe to Cleveland for a minor league pitcher, a low-risk move for the Indians that bolsters their starting rotation.

Lowe was dealt for 23-year-old left-hander Chris Jones, who went 7-1 with 3.36 ERA in 43 games at Kinston (A) last season. The Braves are eating all but $5 million of the $15 million remaining on the last year of Lowe's contract, sources told ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney.

Lowe went 9-17 with a 5.05 ERA in 34 appearances for the Braves in 2011. The 15-year veteran right-hander has a career record of 166-146 with a 3.94 ERA.

I haven't heard anything about who it might be.....we were talking here at work this morning after the press conference that Maddon would be pretty good.....someone thought he already signed with Tampa Bay.....so who knows?

He should have won more championships with Oakland. Really, there was no excuse for winning just one title in the last 80's-early 90's. Especially so against mediocre Dodgers and Reds teams in 1988 and 1990. They didn't just lose those series to inferior teams, they got hammered 4-0 and 4-1.

Sabathia doesn't opt out of his contract. Out of fear the Yankees added an extra year plus an option year to the current deal. 23 million per year for the rest of the old contract (2012-2015), then 25 million in 2016 and finally a 25 million dollar option in 2017 (or 5 million buyout).

If the following doesn't happen in 2016 the option year is guaranteed:

- Ends season on DL because of left shoulder injuries
- Spends more than 45 days on DL because of left shoulder issues
- Makes six or more relief appearances because of left shoulder issues

So if he goes on the DL because he's out of shape and his knees gave out, he's all good

About what was expected. He'd be around 37 by the end of that deal. Unless he really lets himself go he should still be at least decent on the back end of the deal. Considering him being a Yankee has always entirely about the money they really had to pony up.

Seriously. I'd have given him away for free. Even eating most of his contract is worth getting rid of that has-been.

His arm would have about 3700 regular season innings pitched if he pitches around 220 innings for the next six years which isn't that bad at all. The Professor threw 5008 career regular season innings

Concerning the trading of Derek Lowe

Ya, I don't mean to rag on Lowe. He's been a decent pitcher throughout his career. But at 38 with an ERA of 4.57 in 3 seasons with Atlanta he's got nothing left.

Just got me thinking about how great the World Series was. It would be nice if they'd release the full uncut World Series for 2011 on Blu-Ray. Unfortunately I don't think they've ever put out more than just the usual 2 hour highlight reel for a World Series on Blu-Ray. It's usually DVD only. One can hope though. Even though I'm not a Texas or St. Louis fan I'd buy it.

Heres a Shocker Sabathia to stay with yankees

Quote:
Well, here’s a surprise.

CC Sabathia just announced that he has agreed to a contract extension with the Yankees.

Most expected Sabathia would opt out of the remaining four years and $92 million on his contract and test free agency, but both sides worked hard to hammer out a new deal before tonight’s deadline.

As Buster Olney of ESPN.com reports, this essentially is a one-year contract extension. Sabathia will earn $25 million in 2016 while Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com hears that the contract includes a $25 million vesting option for 2017 or a $5 million buyout. The 31-year-old left-hander is now guaranteed $122 million over the next five years, or $24.4 million per year, which tops Cliff Lee ($24 million) for the highest average annual value for a pitcher.

UPDATE: Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports that the option for 2017 automatically vests unless Sabathia ends the 2016 season on the disabled list with a shoulder injury, spends more than 45 days on the disabled list in 2016 due to a shoulder injury or makes at least six relief appearances in 2016 due to shoulder issues.

UPDATE II: The Yankees are currently holding a conference call and have sent out a press release. This baby is official.
