Now I'm wondering if that would work. Are there any av receivers that have an opticle output.? If there was I could connect my ps3 and pc to it and the decode all audio to dolby digital and send it to the px5 transmitter.
I must research

From there, change the LPCM option to Bitstream. Otherwise, when the PS3 is set to LPCM it is doing the decoding and is thus not sending a Dolby Digital stream to the DSS module, which will trigger DPL on the DSS.

If that doesn't do it and you meant you enabled "Optical and Multiple Out" simultaneously, that might be the problem if you set HDMI first, then enabled Multi-Out. What this will do is make Optical "secondary" and will only send PCM 2.0 via the Optical port. Try setting it to Optical "only" (no Multi-Out) using manual configuration and of course enable the checkboxes for Dolby Digital and Dolby TrueHD.
Switching it to output Bitstream fixed it! I didn't know what the difference was between LPCM and Bitstream. I have never had any experience with any of these audio settings before since I've only had wireless stereo headphones plugged into the audio out jack of my tv in the past.

Thanks!

Once you get it working make note that "Dolby Digital" will not be triggered on the DSS module when playing DTS and DTS-HD MA sources as the DSS module only has a Dolby decoder. You actually won't get any sound as a result so you will need to switch to LPCM and the DSS will only output DPL.
Also, I put in the Incredibles, which has DTS-MA, and I didn't change anything in the settings (Kept it on Bitstream) and I was able to get DPL. Is this because I have it set up like this: PS3 -HDMI-> TV -Optical-> DSS, and my TV is set to digital audio out as Dolby Digital?

Almost all PC games will be PCM via optical as they aren't encoded with Dolby Digital. And for that matter, because optical does not support PCM multi-channel audio you will only get PCM 2.0. The solution is to pick up a sound card that can convert to Dolby Digital Live and output via optical in order to get the PX5 base unit to operate in Dolby Headphone mode. However Dolby Digital Live has become increasingly rare with sound cards over the years (if it wasn't rare to begin with) and the only cards I know of that currently have it are the Diamond Extreme Sound DDL and the Asus Xonar.

Edit: Err, I guess scratch the Asus Xonar off the list - it looks like it only has coaxial and no optical out.

No problem. Glad it worked!

Ah, I missed that you said the TV was between the PS3 and the DSS. Yeah, I'm guessing the TV is coverting the signal to PCM 2.0, which will be DPL on the DSS. So that's a good solution then vs. going PS3 > DSS because now you won't have to toggle between Bitstream and LPCM for DTS and DTS-HD MA sources.

Yes there are. Although I've owned various prepros/AVRs, I've only happened to try this with Marantz. The two units I own can output Dolby Digital from an Optical input source (it won't do HDMI > Optical, I'm guessing because of HDCP). I've tried the DSS module this way and it is receiving a Dolby Digital signal and is thus enabling Dolby Headphone.
