Quote:
Baseball legend Barry Bonds was sentenced Friday to two years of probation for an obstruction of justice conviction in connection with his 2003 testimony to a federal grand jury investigating pro athletes' illegal steroids use.

Bonds also was fined $4,000 during his sentencing in a San Francisco federal courtroom near the ballpark where he broke Hank Aaron's major league home run record in 2007.

Jurors who found Bonds guilty in April said he was evasive in his December 2003 testimony, which was part of the BALCO investigation that targeted employees of a California drug testing laboratory and Bonds' personal trainer Greg Anderson.

The testimony that led to Bonds' conviction came when a grand jury prosecutor asked him whether Anderson ever gave him "anything that required a syringe to inject yourself with."

Bonds told the grand jury that only his personal doctors "ever touch me," and he then veered off the subject to say he never talked baseball with Anderson. In closing arguments two weeks ago, a federal prosecutor said Bonds lied to the grand jury because he knew the truth about his steroids use would "tinge his accomplishments" and hurt his baseball career. Defense lawyers had argued that Bond' thought the creams and ointments Anderson was giving him were made of flaxseed oils.

Does any one else have a problem with errors being charged to my player in the "Road to the Show"? I am a catcher and in the AAA's, when a pitcher throws a ball 4 in the dirt, it give me full controll of my player like a regular play, I can even throw to 1st base but of course the runner is not out as it is a dead ball play, but after the batter reaches 1st base and the play is over I get charged with an error. Its making my manager mad, because it says I have made 7 errors. Any help would be great. oops this was supposed to be in the MLB the Show Thread. MY BAD

Derek Jeter Gives One-Night Stands a Gift Basket of Autographed Memorabilia

Quote:
Jeter accidentally had a two-night stand, and he sent her home with the same gift twice. Maybe if she'd gotten something new and fun (collect 'em all, ladies!) she wouldn't have blown up his spot, but he failed to change things up properly.

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Diamondbacks have signed Jason Kubel to a two-year deal.
According to CBS Sports' Jon Heyman, the two-year contract is worth $15 million and also carries an option for 2014. Kubel drew only mild free agent interest this winter after batting .273/.332/.434 with 12 homers and 58 RBI over 401 plate appearances in 2011 for the Twins. He's expected to see regular playing time in left field for the Snakes next season, pushing Gerardo Parra to the role of fourth outfielder

If you'd left out the name of the player I would have guessed it would be A-Rod.

A-Rod is too cheap for that. He probably wouldn't even give a one-night-stand cab fare.

Give A-Rod some credit. I'm sure he hands out a gift basket containing a framed photo depicting him kissing himself.

Yu Darvish's pitch counts from last year have been revealed.

He was quite the horse last year.

We're joking around but yet I wouldn't be surprised if it was true.

That's one thins that always concerns be with Japanese league pitchers. They all throw a TON of innings going back to little league. Matsuzaka once threw a combines 398 pitches over the course of two days when he was in the national high school playoffs. Matsuzaka is 31 but looks like he's closer to 40 these days. Most of the Japanese pitchers burnout much younger than their American counterparts. Darvish is only 25 but has pitched 1268 professional innings in Japan. Throwing 100 pitches in a game is a lot in the MLB and this guy regularly threw 140+ per game in Japan. He might have 5-6 good years in MLB, but more than that is a stretch.

Those pitch counts are ludicrous. He needs to come to the Majors for a rest.

I thought Toronto had already won. But after checking the news it appears you are correct. Very nice addition for Texas. Nolan and Co. really do a good job in spending what it takes to remain a top-tier team. I suspect over the next few years the AL West will be interesting with the Angels and Rangers both putting together championship caliber teams.

Given Toronto's financial constraints not getting Dervish may not be that bad of a thing.

If I ran the Rangers I would have rather spent $80 million on C.J. Wilson, who you know can win in America, rather than what they're going to have to spend to sign Darvish, which should easily top $100 million with a $51.7 posting fee and contract of at least that much.

Yeesh... looks like the story is a week old but I just heard this today for the first time. Albert's wife comes across very poorly. She was mad at god for her husband "only" being offered 5 years for $130 mill? A lot of people are just trying to hand onto their homes and jobs these days and she's upset her Albert doesn't get an extra 5 years at >$100 mill more.

http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/73...ouis-cardinals

Quote:
Albert Pujols' wife Deidre, in an interview with a radio station with ties to the former St. Louis Cardinals slugger, said the couple was prepared to take less money to stay in St. Louis, but were greatly disappointed when the team initially offered him a five-year deal.

Thursday, Albert Pujols signed a 10-year, $254 million offer with the Los Angeles Angels that contained no deferred money, as well as a 10-year personal services contract following that deal. The Cardinals' last offer to Pujols was for 10 years and $210 million, with $30 million deferred.

"The offer that people have seen on television I want to tell you what, listeners especially, had that offer been given to us with a guarantee, we would have the (Cardinals) bird on our back," Deidre Pujols told 99.1 Joy FM, a St. Louis-area Christian station that received some of its initial funding from Albert Pujols.

Deidre Pujols, speaking with interviewer Sandi Brown, who is her friend, said the couple initially had no plans to ever leave St. Louis or the Cardinals, the only team the first baseman had ever played for.

"When it all came down, I was mad. I was mad at God because I felt like all the signs that had been played out through the baseball field, our foundation, our restaurant, the Down Syndrome Center, my relationships, my home, my family close," Deidre Pujols told the station. "I mean, we had no reason, not one reason, to want to leave. People were deceived by the numbers."

She indicated the key moment was the Cardinals' initial offer of five years and $130 million.

"When you have somebody say 'We want you to be a Cardinal for life' and only offer you a five-year deal, it kind of confused us," Deidre Pujols said. "Well, we got over that insult and felt like Albert had given so much of himself to baseball and into the community ... we didn't want to go through this again."

Deidre Pujols told the station the negative reaction in St. Louis over her husband's decision to sign with the Angels has been striking.

"Albert has never lied. People are like 'Oh, we thought we knew who he was.' Well, we thought we knew who they were," she told the station.

"The city of St. Louis has absolutely been deceived and I have never seen hatred spread so fast and I understand why," she added. "Let me say that Albert and I never, not one time, ever made plans to leave this city."

Deidre Pujols also said she had no ill will toward the Cardinals or owner Bill DeWitt and that she understands the fans' frustration with her husband's decision.

"It's just like God," she said at the end of the interview, "to put us on a team called the Angels."
