One more question and this is probably going to sound stupid, but i've noticed that SM1 is the first full screen BD i've seen. Are some simply full screen or is there an option to watch any BD in full screen?

If you like that, try Apocalypto

That's a trick question. Based on your TV's viewmode setting you can technically watch any movie you want in fullscreen. However the right answer is no you can't. The reason why you are seeing SP1 in fullscreen is because the aspect ratio of the film is 1.85:1 How much of the movie fills your screen is based on the aspect ratio of the film you're watching.

Honestly.... I never did understand the hype over the SM trilogy PQ

and (again) honestly... it's nothing to do with grain

I just felt the picture never looks particularlly sharp or colourful (except for the odd CGI moment), and really not much of a step up over the (upscaled) DVD's

No doubt some idoit will tell me there's something wrong with my set up, or maybe my eyes...

but... i have a fairly decent collection of Blu discs now (about 20 movies), and almost all have totally blow me away...

However... SM Trilogy, although (as someone already mentioned), each one was slightly better than to one proceeding it... they mostly left me feeling quite disappointed

New adaptors always notice the grain. I think we have all been there at some point. But as time passes, one realizes that grain is simply what was seen in the theater. Next time you go see a movie in the theater, take careful note of when you see grain and in what scenes. When you buy the same movie on BD, see how it compares.

I'm not going to call you an idiot or claim that you need to make an optometry appointment, but I will ask out of the 20 movies you own which ones have blown you away???....based on your answers maybe then I'll make that optometry appointment for you and even pay for the exam. J/K

Yeah the picture quality on SP1 wasn't that great.

I just purchased the SM Trilogy and am watching the first installment as I am writing this, and I must say I am not impressed. Are my eyes playing tricks on me or is PQ not that great on SM1? Thanks...
Spidey 1 will never look that great, it's simply how it was shot.

Raimi likes that kind of look on his films

Actually, i wondered whether something this was the case... the films all seem to have been shot in poor light levels

Which goes back to my original post of them looking not very colourful

Well right off the bat... Blade Runner almost made me do a sex wee... 10 years ago i could never have imagined my favourite film of all time could look sooooooo good

Pirates Trilogy all looked amazing, as does Casino Royale

other notables are: Close Encounters, 300, De Ja Vue,

(i'm trying to do this from memory as i'm in a different room to where they are, but...)

Prestige, Stealth, Layer Cake... even The Island (which other people on here critised for artifacts)

All left me with a far greater smile on my face than Spiderman Trilogy

I have more, but my memory fails me at this time

I guess my main point is, i already had the SM Trio on DVD, had seen them upscaled... and was disappointed that having spent decent money buying them on Blu, there was very little difference

I suggest you look at things like backgrounds and you'll see a lot of difference

Nothing wrong with any of the movies you've mentioned except I'd say some of them are equal to the SM trilogy in PQ.
