Pioneer Plasma screens sales decline

It is a shame that more people are not purchasing Pioneer Plasma’s. Pioneer makes the best quality 720P and 1080P flat panel screens compared to any other brand. Most consumers are interested in price rather then picture quality. Hopefully in the future more consumers will purchase Pioneer Plasma’s so the demand increases. I would hate to one day be limited to under $1,000 1080P LCD screens. Under $1,000 1080P LCD screens are ok for other rooms in the house to save money but for the main room nothing beats a Pioneer Plasma flat panel (accept high-end ceiling mounted front projector)

I wouldnt say they are better than everyone out there, owning the PRO-150FD they make wonderful tv's but in my opinion nobody is hands down the best. but yeah its ashame when good products arent selling.

They are the best. However, they are simply too expensive.

I could afford to blow $5000+ on a 50" display, but in the end I went with a 700U from Panasonic instead. Saved several thousand dollars, and I'm perfectly happy.

They have the best black level and ANSI contrast ratio compared to any other flat panel so far.

Every year as technology improves they keep falling in price. I remember when they use to be $15,000 or more. Pioneer has a niche market that targets the high-end videophile.

Am sure I speak for the majority of consumers that we all want the best like the Pioneer plasmas. But sometimes it's just simply not affordable or a television as costly as their's just isn't high on most consumers' financial priorities.

+1. I'm just a regular old college student - but I might just pick up the 5080 - that TV makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside - at 2200 now, but if a sale drops it to 2000ish, byebye Philly, helloooo Pioneer.

I would love to have an elite, but come on, $6000 for a 50in. Not many people including myself can afford that. and if I could, would I really want to spend that much on a HDTV? I don't know. But I would love to have one, maybe if they were about $4000.

I agree with everyone else's assessment. The Kuro lines are beautiful TV's. But who can really afford a 1080P Plasma for $5000+. The TV I want in my sig. is now $3000 at CC. I may just make the plunge and purchase. For another $2-3k I can get a Kuro. Instead, that money can go towards the Onkyo 805 Receiver, Speakers, and Profile 1.1 or 2.0 stand alone with money left over for movies.

Call Crutchfield, and see what they can do for you. No tax and no shipping, and their prices have been dropping. I bought the KDS-55A3000 there for $1800. Give them a shot.

I bought my first plasma, the Pioneer 503CMX six years ago and it was the best HT purchase I'd ever made...until I replaced it with the 5010 this month.

I agree that Pioneers should dominate plasma sales and put LCDs out of business. I never understood the mentality of saving more money just to buy a less enjoyable product you are going to use every day.

Saving in itself is a difficult concept - America's economy is failing because the rate that Americans save is dropping every year (50% of people in China, for example save - I have the article around here somewhere). Some people just don't have the budget for saving in the first place - and if they are saving, they are probably thinking of less secular purchases than $5000 TVs.

Well, for various reasons, including I don't like cars or driving and I commute to work four times/week without the car. I'd just much rather be at home in front of my 5010.

By the way, it's an '06 Honda Civic and I'm trying to figure out why anyone would need a nicer car.

this is mildy troubling ...

i have myself the last gen pio 5070 and i absolutely love it. but, if pio plasmas keep dropping in sales, i can see one of two things happening.....

either pioneer will continue fighting the good fight and putting out great plasma displays, but the prices will remain high,

or,

pioneer will see this decline in sales and look at lowering the price on their disaplys, which USUALLY means that the overall quality of the the product will get lowered and sacrificed as well.

i, for one, hope they dont go with the latter option. I will pay a premium price for another pioneer plasma in the future knowing that i will receive the best quality for my buck.

Oh, and on a non-instigative, minor note:

-better mileage
-better horsepower
-better styling

...so on and so forth. Sure, you might say 'I don't need more horsepower' - then, others will say, 'we don't need deeeeeeep black levels like those of the Kuro.'

The weird thing is that Pioneer is actually happy with the fact that they're only catering to a higher-end market (small percentage of the market as a whole). That is what they always aimed for (strategically speaking) and that will remain their target for the foreseeable future.
