You have to take into account a few things.
If you don't have the best vision then you might not notice a difference. My mom wears glasses and she can't even tell the diff between 720 and 1080 unless it's a side by side comparison up close.
Also the location of where the sets gonna go. I have a 40" 1080p in my bedroom and it's great. I wouldn't recomend that size for a family room tho.
