I'd like to think they aren't comparable outside of the whole kidnapping aspect. Taken as a whole is a straight action film while Man On Fire is the same with more elaboration on the characters and what drives them. Both are great.

Thanks..
It felt stupid to have two threads with the same topic but the thread was just screaming for a poll. As for Dakota, she's got a natural cute look, she doesn't look like a porn and she can actually act unlike many of the others. I think as long as she's selective about the roles she takes, she'll have a solid career. And I still need to see The Secret Life of Bees. I haven't seen it pop up on HBO, Cinemax, or Showtime yet so I either missed it, or some other cable channel I don't have got the rights. But well, thats what Blockbuster is for. As for Man On Fire, I watched the "alternate ending" a few weeks ago for the first time and I'm really glad they didn't run with it for the final cut, or even put it on the blu ray as an extra. One of the things I really enjoy about the film is that Creasy doesn't get to kill the main bad guy at the end. It gives the film a darker edge in my opinion, and Gerrards "the end" just adds to that darkness. But it was Gerrard's haunting music that made the finale of Gladiator even better. I <3 that womans music.. |

Denzel Washington & Liam Neeson are both good men in the real world and their friends and family are very fortunate.
![]() One other quick note: IMO Taken is Liam's best performance as an actor, if anyone knows of a better one, please inform me! |

After seeing this thread, it begged me to watch both of them yesterday. Even though I liked both, Man on Fire to me is a much better all around movie. Taken was great for it's all out no holds barred action, but Man on Fire is more of at least a character study for the first 45 minutes or so. Setting it up this way makes you care for the players involved. Dakota Fanning was great as a child star and I think she carried the first half of the film. Both good movies though.

I have to agree with you because I typically don't like his acting style.

while i thought both movies were excellent, i give the slightest of nods to Taken because it has the better audio.
Dakota gives a very strong performance in Man on Fire and paired with Denzels acting and the development of the true nature of Creasy character was something to behold. in Taken, Liams intensity throught coupled with the action sequences and of course the top notch audio carried the film. he like Denzel showed great emotion and dedication to the characters. aww what the hell, buy them both! you can't go wrong. but remember, Taken has the best audio (i have to keep saying that as i'm a big ol' audio wh0re! ![]() |

Gotta go with Taken. Man on Fire had all the elements to be a better overall movie but Tony Scott's directing these days, is just so gimmicky and annoying. Totally hurt the movie. It's still one of his better recent movies though.

I have it on blu-ray disc and the sound will rattle the walls of your home theater. Here's one reviewers take on the great lossless audio on the disc and I agree with it: The Audio: Rating the Sound: 'Man on Fire' features an aggressive DTS HD 5.1 Master Lossless Audio surround track that does a great job reproducing both the roar of pandemonium and the subtleties of a whisper. While the film’s first act offers mostly quiet ambiance and crisp conversations, chaos quickly moves in to dominate the soundfield, making dynamics the star of the show. Commanding LFE rumbles mingle with balanced treble tones to produce a natural and powerful soundfield. When I felt the impact of gunshots or explosions in the center of my chest, I knew this track was out for blood. Moreover, I was impressed with the number of individual elements present in the rear speakers -- the sound designers managed to hurl immersive acoustics and explosive sounds across the back of my home theater throughout the film. |
