That is because they don't look at posters as being collectibles. The company that ships the posters for the Disney club probably think its a five dollar poster that someone is going to tack on their walls, they dont see the collectibility of it. The studio distribution channels that ship to theaters are the same way, movie posters are basically big colorful pieces of paper that are solely designed to promote the film, there is no extra care put into packaging, they just toss the poster into a tube and ship them out, and during transit most of the posters shift back and forth causing edge wear. Generally you can tell on eBay when someone is selling a poster they got from a theater when they state it has edge damage. Because original movie posters aren't intended to be for the public or for sale, they only provide enough protection (aka tube) for the posters to arrive in displayable condition, and then they are handled by theater employees and once taken down, they are generally rolled up with rubber bands around them (another no-no).

MoviePosterShop.com is pretty much MovieGoods. As are PopCultureGraphics, and Poster Junction. If you want knock-off's and not even true authorized reprints, then those are the places to buy. Personally I would not take anything from them if it was free, their stuff is complete garbage. If you don't mind getting poor quality scans blown up to poster-size proportions, then you can buy from them under one of their many names they sell under. If you are looking for a reprint, you can try MoviePoster.com, who also sell originals too. For newer stuff in most cases you can buy originals for the same price that some dealers charge for reprints. The term style "A" means it was the first poster released for a film, also known as an advance teaser. Some posters have multiple styles released, some movies just have one poster. The last poster released, or the one that has the movie credits is known as the "final" style (or some call it a "Regular" style). What dealers such as MovieGoods (and their other names they use) do is pull images from the internet and then refer to them as "Style K", "Style L", etc. Those aren't even posters, they are calling them that to make it appear they are legit, but they aren't. Also, sometimes a studio will release an image online that may look like a poster, but it isn't, but then dealers such as MovieGoods pulls that image and makes "27x40 posters" which are poster they are producing themselves, they aren't originals that are studio-issued. Yes, even in the world of movie posters, there are those out to rip people off and sadly they are getting away with it all the time. |

So all those sites are the same? Wow. My friend bought his indiana jones posters from moviegoods and he paid over $100 ( i think) for one of them. He post here so i'll show him this thread and see what he has to say. Are there any other sites you recommend, or is movieposters good enough for me? I saw your post on the first pages, do you sell posters too? Thanks for weeding us through the BS! Last edited by saprano; 04-08-2012 at 03:47 PM. |

I don't see any reprints of back to the future posters in 27x40 on movieposter.com. Only the original which cost $400. I thought i saw one but now i can't find it.
Do you think a metal frame is better than wood? From their pics, the metal looks thinner. |

The problem I think with the sideshow Mondo variants is they are increasing the runs a little too high and the color variations aren't really changing much on each release. I do think the Tron variants and 20,000 Leagues ones will sell out quick once they go up though.

I've now learned a bit about the "minty white" issue and believe I have a beautiful set of fake lobby cards. Man the truth hurts sometimes. ![]() |
