I'm lucky as I saw Dennis Martinez throw his perfect game in 1991 in person at Dodger Stadium.

Cain wasn't the only dominant performance yesterday. The Mets R.A. Dickey threw a 1-hitter as well, with the only hit in the first inning on a play David Wright tried to bare hand for no apparent reason rather than glove it and throw to first. The Mets are going to appeal the ruling that it was a hit and not an error by Wright but they've admitted it's very unlikely the call will be reversed. I've seen a couple replays and I can't imagine the call would be reversed. It was a boneheaded play by Wright and he very easily could have hurt his hand trying to field it with his bare hand but I wouldn't call it an error.

It's amazing how good Dickey is pitching this year after being a journeyman for most of his career. He is now 10-1 and the Mets have won his last 8 starts. Prior to this year Dickey's best season was 11-9 in 2010. Dickey also set a Mets record yesterday by going 32 2/2 innings without giving up a run before giving up an unearned run yesterday in the ninth.

Sigh... both of those games were against my Astros.

Congrats to Matt Cain.

yea, i figured the juice had something to do with it...but still impressive hitting that many grand slams regardless imo..

You guys have to see this video, I swear things like this only happen in SF

Man with aquatic jetpack attempts to hover over Matt Cain’s perfect game

Quote:
The unidentified water walker was actually using a JetLev waterpack and it might end up being one of the best commercials for the product considering that many people — including myself — were confused about what the man was doing. It turns out that the technological wonder is available to well-moneyed consumers. It retails for a cool $99,500 and just hit bodies of water this spring.

With powerful thrusts of water providing the ability to hover on water, I can only imagine what kind of advantage it'd give you when going for a home run ball against the cover's famous kayakers. I'm also pretty sure MLB should look into the possibility of putting this guy in the Kauffman Stadium fountains for next month's All-Star Game in Kansas City.
One of the coolest things i've ever seen

Another possible way might be a fielding error to a throw at first and the runner gets thrown out attempting to take second on the same play. Would that be considered a perfect game since there never was a baserunner?

Offense is way down and there are less contact hitters than ever before. The strikeout rates are through the roof across the league. I don't think it's a coincidence there have been so many perfectos in the last three years. Remember that Detroit pitcher had his perfect game stolen by the umpire.

I would imagine not since if you get thrown out at second on a ball hit to the right fielder, it's a single.

Finally a win for Verlander! Can't believe he's only 6-4 despite a 2.66 ERA...

Nothing against Dickey but they better uphold this call.

Cheapest no-hitter ever if it is overturned considering he never had the "OMG I'm pitching a no hitter" pressure during the game.

He's talking about an infielder butchering the throw to first but the greedy runner gets nailed at second on the same play.

I know. But I think it's the same situation. The runner has reached base. But in trying to reach another base, he is out.

No surprise, MLB denied the Mets appeal and Dickey's game is a one-hitter.
