I disagree. I don't see Holm in Hollander but, when I watched Alien a couple of months ago, Holm really reminded me of Freeman. Plus Freeman seems naturally Hobbit-y. Great casting in my mind, from a looks and character point of view.

I've read The Hobbit a couple of times and am re-reading it now. Yes, it's a shorter book than LOTR. But, reading it with the film in mind, I can easily see how it would fill two books, especially with the additional details of what else is happening i Middle-Earth at that time. When you read each chapter and imagine how it would play on screen you can see we could easily spend half an hour in The Shire, [Show spoiler] Add in all the walking (there will be walking) and all of the extra material from the Appendices and you have a three hour film without milking anything. There and Back Again seems more slight but I imagine we'll see a lot more of [Show spoiler] and [Show spoiler] will be huge.

I can already see this becoming almost as hated as the Star Wars prequels, since this is such a beloved book and Jackson is really expanding on it. Hopefully it turns out great though.
How is this idea sitting with Tolkien fans? By not just adapting the Hobbit book but instead combining it with the appendices? |

I wonder how this happened exactly. Obviously Jackson has a lot of footage since they will only do two more months of shooting. I wonder if it just turned out they had a lot of footage of if Jackson had this in mind and shot a lot so as to have a good excuse for going into a third film.
In any case, I am excited. I'm not sure these will be as scrutinized as the Star Wars prequels considering the lack of time passed in this set and considering Jackson has his writing team with him. |
